Boots Lipcote Original Lipstick Sealer Review

This Lipcote was a last-minute purchase from Boots UK, literally around the cash counter. They always have these hanging around, so you can pick them up out of curiosity. Being a lipstick person, I thought this would also mattify while sealing my lipstick in place, so I picked it up. The British beauty classic tag can definitely not be missed 😛

My Experience with Boots Lipcote Original Lipstick Sealer:

Usage instructions printed on the product mention that you need to apply lipstick, blot, apply again, blot and then go with the Lipcote. Now, this process (of blotting and reapplying) increases the chances of your lipstick staying for much longer even without a Lipcote. I love cakey mattes, so I would apply twice and blot anyway.

It’s worth knowing about this product – this has a strange straight coarse bristle brush, I just wish it was tapered and soft. The second thing worth noting is that it smells very strongly of some chemical or nail enamel. Thirdly, this product stings for 10 seconds until it dries. This feels like applying a clear top coat of nail polish to the lips. This product dries very very fast, thankfully, setting your lipstick. The coat of the product should be even all over the lipstick, otherwise the parts where there is no Lipcote would vanish.

If you happen to apply more at one place, the product makes your lipstick look patchy on that area after a meal. Remember, I noticed this did not mattify my lipstick.

Now, coming to the staying power – it survived “shower and shampoo test” over the lipstick, it survived the pao-bhaji meal test and got slightly patchy. It also survived the coffee test . Now after around 4 hours, my lipstick has vanished from the inside of the lips, but the places where there was proper application of Lipcote, I could still see my lipstick, but it was slightly patchy there.

Beyond 4 hours, I was tempted to reapply the lipstick to make the color more even on the inside of the lips.

Pros of Boots Lipcote Original Lipstick Sealer:

• Does make the lipstick last by at least 2-3 extra hours.
• Survives shower and meals.
• Dries in ten seconds.

Cons of Boots Lipcote Original Lipstick Sealer:

• The brush is not to my liking.
• The smell is very strong.
• It has a strong sensation on the lips for ten seconds.
• The packaging could have been more travel friendly.
• Makes the lipstick patchy.
• Has to be applied with time, preparing and blotting the lipstick prior to Lipcote.
• It is very runny.

Would I Recommend/Repurchase Boots Lipcote Original Lipstick Sealer?
Though the product works by sealing the lipstick and making it last longer, there are too many cons like its strong smell and the sting. It did not help my lipstick on the inner lips. I would prefer reapplying lipstick rather than buying this product again.
