Lakme Absolute Lip Color – Brick Review

Lakme Absolute Lip Colour – Brick Review

I got this lipstick when the new “Absolute” range had just come out and my favourite brown lipstick (old Lakme ones, the one with the dark green packaging) had just finished.  So, here I was in this really tiny makeup shop squashed with a bunch of people (don’t know what the rush was all about), all I knew was I needed to buy a brown lipstick. Why you ask, simple – take a kid’s favourite toy away and he is going to need a new one fairly urgently.

So, there I was and I was looking at the shades when this mother of 3 with a kid to her right, left and centre picked up this shade.  I asked the SA to show me the same and she was like I can swatch it but that was the last piece (again show a  new toy to the baby and take it away, he is going to go berserk).  So, I being the “RAM” I am (Aries the ram), hell bent and stubborn, and irritated left the shop to find another one.  The gods of lipsticks were against me because it started to pour.  A little bit of rain wasn’t going to get in my way and hence I journeyed on and then finally the baby found his toy in another crammed little shop. I went ahead and bought it and I was so pleased with myself that I bought the Lakme Absolute 6 in 1 travel kit, but that’s another story.

So, to talk about the product, one of the best lipstick shades I have come across. I have super dry lips and I find that even without lip balm, this lipstick works well which I am pretty happy about because that means carrying one less product around.  I am not too fond of the packaging, I honestly bought the lipstick for the colour.

Brown lipstick

I think the Lakme Absolute range has the tagline – “makeup that doesn’t look made-up” and this totally applies to this lipstick, except this product, I don’t really like the Absolute range that much.  Okay, so the product comes in a sleek gun metal coloured twist up pen.

It has vitamin E and wheat oil which helps the lips remain soft.  I thought I would go into more detail with vitamin E and wheat oil. Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant which is really good for your lips.  It’s one of the vitamins whose deficiency can cause chapped lips.  So, it’s pretty good for you.  Wheat oil – to my knowledge, my granny used to apply wheat oil on my knee scrapes. So, I know that it’s good to heal scars.

It has olive oil like consistency, which is good for moisturizing.  The whole range has about 20 shades that you can pick up.  When you look at the lipstick, you are going to think that it will come with some shine, its completely matte. So, if you are thinking about shine, don’t pick up this lipstick.  You get 3.6 ml and it comes with a year warranty which is quite normal.  Even though the shade name is brick, this colour is more of a red chocolate kind of shade.

Pros of Lakme Absolute Lip Colour – Brick:

  • Its like a lip butter, it really makes your lips soft, I honestly believe this is one of those high-end lipsticks that don’t spoil your lips.
  • Unlike most Lakme lipsticks, it doesn’t make my lips darker than they are.
  • Even though its heavy, it doesn’t feel uncomfortable sitting on your lips, so that’s a good thing.
  • Even though it doesn’t have SPF, it does have wheat oil which helps in removing tan.
  • Beautiful and matte, its one of those shades for me when I don’t know what to apply, I always reach out for this.
  • Makes lips look fuller, with liner and without, so pretty happy about that.
  • Doesn’t leave marks on glass when you drink water (happy girl).
  • Pretty good for the price.
  • You can tone it down and it looks so luscious and natural, and no shine whatsoever.

Cons of Lakme Absolute Lip Colour – Brick:

  • Its highly pigmented, I find that I always have to tone it down, so its a waste of product.
  • Since you get only 3.6 ml, it gets over fairly soon even when used with a light hand.
  • Using a lip brush is recommended because it doesn’t fill the creases in the lips.
  • Doesn’t really glide on well, but that might probably be due to my super dry lips, does a little bit better with lip balm.
  • Low staying power, lasts for 2 hours (not including meals).
  • Doesn’t have SPF.
  • Can get a bit dry, especially during the winter.
  • Once you have applied, you have to keep doing touch-up’s or else it just looks ghastly.
  • Not a fan of the packaging.

I would totally love to buy this lipstick again, mine is getting over pretty fast.
