How to Stimulate the Scalp for Hair Growth

When we talk about beauty, the importance of beautiful hair cannot be overlooked. Lustrous locks can add so much to your personality but, the lifestyles we have they (beautiful hair) are a seen on few people these days. Many of us have problems not only with hair texture but also with our hair length.

While, the hair generally grows one-half inch each month, this rate depends on many factors such as generics, overall health and how well a person takes care of hair. However, some beauty professionals and medical practitioners believe that stimulating the scalp may increase the speed of hair growth and even the density of hair on the scalp.

Scalp stimulation is basically the process of rubbing or massaging the scalp with the intention of increasing blood flow to the area. Stimulating the scalp is not only beneficial for the hair follicle and root but is equally relaxing on the head and neck muscles.

Mentioned below are few tips that will help you to stimulate your scalp and improve your hair growth.

• Keep scalp and hair clean: It is the first and the most important step to improve and maintain the health of your scalp. Wash your hair regularly to remove all the dirt from the pores on the scalp that may clog them and in turn hold back hair growth. Use a clarifying shampoo once a week to help thoroughly cleanse your scalp and remove buildup of oil and debris from your hair.

• Oil massage: Now, this is an age old therapy that really works its magic on the overall health of your hair. Massaging your scalp with essential oils like lavender, basil, nettle, lemon and rosemary increase circulation and prevent hair from breaking as easily. Using rosemary oil on your scalp can improve the strength of your hair and the rate at which it grows. Start at your forehead and work your way to the crown of your head, slowly. Use small circular motions, applying more oil to your fingertips when they run dry. Continue massaging in circular motions, moving from the sides of your head, to the back and ending at the nape of your neck.

• Brush your hair: Brushing when done in a correct manner has its own benefits. Brush your hair gently with a boar hair brush or other natural fiber brush as they are soft on your hair and scalp. Never brush wet hair as wet hair is too fragile for brushing. Brush your hair starting at the scalp and moving down to the ends. However, you should avoid excessive brushing.

• Try not to put your hair under too much stress of hair dryers, curling iron, and other hair tools and treatments that can damage your hair and affect its growth negatively.

  1. Nice tips. Need of the hour for me. I would recommend rubbing of finger nails too. It really seems to be adding to the volume of my already reduced hair thickness. Nice post on the whole. Would definitely make sure that I do it regularly

  2. my hair are already very thin and less volume too..though i dont have any hairfall issues…can you suggest something to actually increase their density? n also suggest some good clarifying shampoo easily available at stores coz i have a very oily scalp and therefore lot of oil build up

    1. Tanvi, I believe Patene has a clarifying shampoo which is available in India but the exact name of the variant escapes me now. However, be warned, I have never used it so I don’t know if it is good or not. I’m sorry, I do not know of other brands available in India, but I’m sure the other ladies will be glad to help you.

      Good tips, Era.
