Umberto Giannini Sleek & Chic Easy Straight Blow Dry Spray Review

Ola Bonita Chica’s!

With travel becoming cheaper and cheaper globally everyone is hoping on the next train or flight to get somewhere exotic. We all have packed our bags and repeatedly checked their weight on weighing scales, throwing things in and out of our bags because we want to travel in our allowed weight limit and not pay those hefty excess luggage fees. I’ve had the same problems and I make sure that I use travel friendly options to keep up with my beauty regime. I’m travelling at the moment and I wanted to share some of my favorites that I take with me everywhere and some that I just want to throw in the airport bin.

The Umberto Giannini Blow Dry Spray comes in a baby blue spray bottle. It’s cute with its silver and blue packaging. The spray top comes with a light blue cap which is pretty secure and has lasted me through all the chucking around in bags. There’s plenty of product in here for a month long holiday. My only issue is with the actual spray nozzle that does get stuck now and then. Otherwise the spray delivers an even amount of product in every use. The bottle says that this product is for use on fine to medium thickness hair.

Product claims:
The bottle claims this will give you ‘Straight hair with a sexy swing’!

GBP 4.49 at Boots for 50 ml of product. But I got it for free with a 3 for 2 offer at Boots instore at the time.

My experience with the Umberto Giannini Sleek & Chic Easy Straight Blow Dry Spray:

What got me interested in this spray was that it was a ‘Blow Dry’ spray and not a heat protectant spray as we use when we straighten or curl our hair. Plus it was touted for fine to medium thickness hair, and I with my thin hair made a perfect guinea pig for this product! As a blow dry spray it does not protect you from high temperatures that styling equipment gets to, it is meant just for the general blow dry. My hair also tends to get split ends easily; I wanted to cut back on the constant straightening for a while. Also when travelling, I knew I’d find a blow dryer at most hotels with no trouble at all so I picked this up to help with my hair as I was avoiding straightening.

I have to be honest straight away that this product is just rubbish. Basically it promises straight hair as you blow dry if you spray this on before blow drying. I do not know what I did wrong but this did not work for me at all. I have scared some people away with my frizzy mane, looking much like a circus clown when I’m in a high humidity area and maybe I did not give this product a fair chance having used it at a beach destination with humidity at its highest? Who knows! Apart from the location I followed the instructions on the bottle that say to spray this evenly to towel dried hair before blow drying. I also used a huge round barrel brush during my blow dries (note- plural tries) but for some reason my hair just seemed sticky and looked like it had been 3 days since my last shampoo. It increased my hair’s oil production in a few hours after use and I had to end up shampooing again. I tried to kid myself that I was not using it correctly and I’d jump into the pool and give myself an excuse to wash my hair, but eventually I had to just give up with this product.

Can I also mention that there is nothing attractive about a hair spray that smells like a roll on deodorant? Hair sprays and dry shampoos are known for their wonderful fragrances, but not this at all! This just smells weird. All in all I’m glad I did not invest in a bigger size of this. It made my hair super greasy really fast and did not help with getting my hair sexy or straight. Even though this is just a blow dry spray a blow dry can get hot too, should this not offer at least some heat protection? Umberto Giannini products are so popular in salons but sadly this one was just a big fail!

Pros of Umberto Giannini Sleek & Chic Easy Straight Blow Dry Spray:

  • Travel-friendly

Cons of Umberto Giannini Sleek & Chic Easy Straight Blow Dry Spray:

  • Makes hair greasy
  • Spray nozzle gets stuck occasionally
  • Smells funny
  • Does not straighten hair with blow drying
  • Offers no heat protection

Would I repurchase or recommend the Umberto Giannini Sleek & Chic Easy Straight Blow Dry Spray?
No I would not recommend this to anyone and I do not think I’ll be spending my money on anything from the Umberto Giannini line again.
