I am reviewing a YSL lipstick after a fairly long time! I had picked this ages ago, way before the “Fuchsia Fetiche” I reviewed for you earlier from this range. I think I got side tracked by the Estee Lauder Envy and NARS Audacious lipsticks, and this was left behind. It’s like re-discovering products in your own stash. But that’s half the fun. Sometimes one should shop their stash before going out to shop. I definitely should! 😛
Product Details:
The must-have for the perfect matte lip look. Rich, creamy formula is infused with a velvet complex for a luxuriously smooth application, and jojoba oil for long lasting comfort. Intense color pigments for a vibrant touch of color that lasts. Formulated with “Velvet Complex”, a combination of spherical powders and silk oil, Rouge Pur Couture The Mats gives the lips a perfect matte finish, a sensual sheen and 6-hour color hold that never fades or smudges. Apply Lipstick from the center of the lips and work towards the corners of the mouth. To improve lipstick wear, apply Touche Éclat to the lip contour.
Price:
$35 in US / About INR 3200 post conversion – Dubai Sephora is expensive guys!
Packaging:
The lipstick comes packaged in a golden case which has a decent weight, not too heavy. It bears the YSL logo on one side. Looks extremely classy but is quite a finger print magnet. Strangely, the bullet did not have YSL etched on it, unlike Fuchsia Fetiche. The lipstick comes packaged in a golden cardboard box. Grouse with the packaging – again, no indication of colour (if you have more than one). Also, the tag on the lipstick bottom mentions only the number, not the name!
My Experience with YSL #201 Orange Imagine Rouge Pur Couture The Mats’ Lipstick:
Color: The shade “Orange Imagine” is an orange tinted red, it’s not a pure orange like YSL #13 Le Orange. This would be in line with MAC Lady Danger, rather than a MAC Morange. That ensures it’s more easily wearable and would suit a larger spectrum of skin tones. The shade brightens the face and is a fun colour rather than something too intense. I think it is kind of perfect for people who want to experiment with reds or oranges or even orange-reds, but don’t want the color to run too deep and intense.
Texture: The texture is creamy, light, velvet smooth, matte, non-drying and very comfortable. It glides on smoothly and looks just fab. No bleeding, no dryness. Love the texture on this one! One of the most comfortable matte lipsticks that I have come across! It doesn’t suck out life from your lips, even after hours of wear time.
Pigmentation: Full on pigmentation, 100% color deposit in a single swipe. Look at the arm swatch in the pic, that’s a single swipe of the colour. I love pigmented lipsticks, this is perfect from that aspect!
Lasting Power: The product lasted about 6 hours+ on me and still left a stain. You could do a whole day with it and it would appear that the lipstick is still on at the end of the day. The residual stain is that strong. You need a good makeup remover to get it totally off.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of YSL #201 Orange Imagine Rouge Pur Couture The Mats’ Lipstick:
- A beautiful orange-red lipstick.
- Lightweight velvety matte texture.
- Easy to apply and maintain the contour of lips.
- Excellent pigmentation, opaque in a single swipe.
- Extremely comfortable, not hydrating but comfortable.
- The lipstick applies smoothly, no tug or pull!
- Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
- No feathering or bleeding, a big YAY for such a deep colour.
- Convenient packaging, easy to apply and easy to carry, doesn’t take much space in the bag.
Cons of YSL #201 Orange Imagine Rouge Pur Couture The Mats’ Lipstick:
- Unavailability in India.
IMBB Rating:
A definite 5/5 product.
“The Mats” range has a lovely formula. I wish I had picked up more shades from this range. However, two big issues with that – one, the Mats range does not have too many shades to offer. It’s a very limited line with a handful of colors which is sad considering how fab the formula is. Secondly, for some reason, YSL has pulled out of India. So, no more access to this lovely line unless one travels abroad. However, if you do travel out, please check out the Mats line.
I absolutely recommend it and would love to re-buy!
