My Experience with Chapstick Moisturizer Original Lip Balm:

Chapstick does not need any introduction. It is so popular that mostly people use a generalized term “chapstick” for any lip balm they use, but ironically, this is one of the first chapsticks that I have bought. :O As weather became colder and the temperatures dipped, I was looking for a good lip balm, so picked up chapstick this time. Also, with SPF 12, it would give some sun protection to my lips too. 😛

The lip balm comes in a standard chapstick tube, which is sealed. I am really glad and happy that the product comes with a seal as it ensures hygiene and that the product has not been opened. I have seen many people at the store, opening the product to check it out and then keeping it back on the shelves! :/ Anyway, the tube has a white colored cap and has a small wheel at the bottom to twist up the product, but I have faced issues while retracting the lip balm back in the case because the wheel does roll but the product does not retract back into the tube. 🙁

The product is off white in color, but comes out transparent on the lips. It is thick, but not as thick as Vaseline. It applies a bit waxy and feels a little heavy on the lips. The staying power is good though. It stays on my lips (or should I say that it just sits on my lips!) for more than 4-5 hours. If 2-3 coats are applied, it survives even a full meal.

Since, it just sits on the lips, it is not a good base for any lip product, i.e. lipstick. or lip liner. You need to clean the product off the lips before applying any makeup on them. It does keep my lips hydrated for all the while. But do not expect any healing of chapped lips.

The fragrance is just like vanilla cake, to be precise. 😉 Yes, it has a vanilla fragrance which stays for a while before fading off. Also, the lip balm contains SPF, but I feel SPF 12 is not sufficient, but yes, something is better than nothing. 😉

Now comes the part which does not work for me. 🙁 After using this chapstick regularly and religiously for a couple of days, I have started to notice slight irritation on my lips. There was a bit of stinging and my lips started to flake. I was not sure if it was due to this product, so I stopped using it and resumed after some days, and the irritation recurred. Probably, there is some ingredient in this lip balm that doesn’t work for me, but it is kind of difficult to narrow it down from the long list!! To confirm, I made my hubby use it, he has normal skin and luckily, very rarely, products react on him, but he too wasn’t too happy with this lip balm. He said this lip balm made his lips dry 🙁
