7 Home Remedies to Treat Dandruff

How are you guys!!! Hope all of you have had a fun-filled Dushera! Winter is just around the corner and as we near the season, a lot of people tend to experience an aggravated condition of dandruff. I know, a lot us dread this scalp condition the most, as it is equally frustrating and embarrassing at the same time. No one likes seeing white scaly stuff shedding all over your clothes. And dandruff doesn’t come alone, an aggravated condition can cause a severe case of pimple break out too which most of fail to recognize.

So, here are a few easy home remedies to treat dandruff under 30 minutes.

1. White Vinegar/Apple Vinegar:

Mix equal quantities of white vinegar or apple vinegar with water in a spray bottle and spray it close to your roots and give your scalp a gentle massage with your finger-tips. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash off with your regular shampoo. Apple vinegar is a great anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial aid, it’s a perfect tool in treating the excess bacteria and yeast-like fungus that make dandruff reoccur as well. Use this remedy at least 2 times a week.

2. Aspirin:

As surprising as it may sound, this is a remedy that actually works! Crush about 2-3 tablets of aspirin and mix the powder in your regular shampoo, shake well and use this shampoo to wash your scalp and hair. Using this twice a week can give you great results. Aspirin contains an active ingredient (salicylic acid) like many medicated dandruff shampoos and hence can work effectively on the problem.

3. Lemon Juice and Coconut Oil:

Mix half a cup of lemon juice with one cup of coconut oil, mix the ingredients well and apply it on your scalp. Give your scalp a gentle massage and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash off with your regular shampoo. This remedy can be used twice a week for effective results. Lemon contains anti-fungal properties, vitamin C and citric acid that fight against the dandruff. Coconut oil moisturizes the scalp and sheds away dead skin cells.

4. Tea Tree Oil:

Mix a few drops of tea tree oil in your regular shampoo, shake well and wash your scalp and hair with it to get rid of dandruff, as tea tree oil is known to contain anti-fungal properties and hence can get rid of the dandruff.

5. Mouthwash:

I know; it sounds berserk!! But, it is true that mouth wash can work in getting rid of dandruff as it contains anti-bacterial properties. Mix equal parts of mouth wash with water in a spray bottle, shake well and spray the mixture on your scalp, close to your roots. Massage your scalp with your finger tips and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash off with your regular shampoo.

6. Aloe vera Gel:

Aloe vera gel is one gift from nature that is multi-purpose and can serve several needs for your skin and hair. Massage a small quantity of aloe vera gel on your scalp, and wash off after 15 minutes. Aloe vera gel has an antiseptic property that soothes the scalp and reduces itching. It also penetrates deep into the hair and scalp to kill the bacteria and clean it. It has an anti – inflammatory compound called glycoproteins that reduces the inflammation and soothes itching sensation. It has a natural anti – fungal property that removes dandruff causing fungus and yeast on the scalp.

7. Olive oil and Ginger:

Warm some olive oil and mix some crushed ginger root in it, apply it all over your scalp and wash off after 30 minutes. This remedy provides moisture to the scalp and also gets rid of dandruff.
