Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss – Buff Review

Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss – Buff Review

Rati’s posts on MAC lip glasses reminded me about these Bobbi Brown lip glosses I picked up (yes, more than one) some time back, only to realize that I am not really a lip gloss person anymore! See, we all go through phases when we get attracted to certain kind of products – I went through the pink phase, the gothic cocoa bean brown phase, just lip gloss phase, purple lipstick phase, coral lipstick phase, orange phase and currently, seems like I am in my neon shades phase! Anyway 🙂

So, I will adding to my Bobbi Brown series with a few more Bobbi Brown products, first of them being this lip gloss.

Product Details:

A lip gloss with a sheer, non-sticky shine with a hint of color.  This lip gloss is formulated with soothing botanical extracts – including Avocado, Jojoba and Chamomile Oils, and Aloe Extract – to keep lips soft and supple; plus the new tapered applicator lets you apply it like a pro, scented with a hint of vanilla.

Price:

US $24 for 7 ml.

I have a mini version – cost me about INR 1200 for 4.2 ml (post conversions).

Packaging:

The lip gloss has a square transparent plastic bottle and comes with a brush like applicator. It’s extremely easy to apply and use around the lips curves. Packaging is extremely easy to carry in a clutch for re-application – since its small.

My Experience with Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss – Buff:

Color: The colour “Buff” is described on the website as “Beige Pink” which is absolutely apt. Its kind of perfect for someone trying to work out a glossy n*de lip colour or for someone trying to tone down a darker/brighter shade. Meaning, it will work well alone as well as on top of a lipstick.  There is no sparkle/sheen/shimmer at all – its pure glossiness.  Since the colour isn’t plain beige/brown, but has a peachy note, it looks natural and pretty rather than boring.

Texture: The texture is obviously glossy and a little sticky.

Pigmentation: It can be sheered out or built to colour in the tube by using a little more product when applying.

Lasting Power:  On its own, it lasts about 3 hours. On top of a lipstick, it lasts a little longer.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss – Buff:

  • A beautiful peachy beige colour making it versatile for lone application or for toning down a bright lipstick.
  • Easy to use applicator.
  • Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
  • Feels hydrating.
  • Convenient small packaging.
  • Light pleasant fragrance – easy on the nose.

Cons of Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss – Buff:

  • I don’t put pricing as a con, but in this case, I feel there is too little product for that pricing – even though quality is exceptional.

IMBB Rating:

Yes, a 4.5/5 product.

This is an absolutely fab colour with exceptional quality. I should know in terms of lip gloss quality because I went through “only lip gloss” phase not so long ago, though at that time I never used to buy high-end lip glosses, but with my current love for intensely pigmented lipsticks, I sometimes wonder why I get taken into buying products I won’t eventually use.

Does that happen to you? Do you get drawn to buying stuff, even though you know that you won’t really use it too often? Meaning, are you a hoarder like me?

    1. Its a lovely n*de colour Jomol – but I am so over my lipgloss phase – don’t know why i picked these! *headbang* *headbang* They are great but they aren’t cheap!

    1. I know what you mean. But off late I am looking for a n*de shade which would still look good on my face – the search is still on. Problem is i don’t like my face with the n*de colours. I tried MAC N*de from the Riri Woo collection – I looked horrific!!! *nababana* *nababana*

  1. I am going through a major lip gloss phase K. This looks etremely pretty. well!! wont answer what you asked in the end. I think you already know my answer rofl rofl rofl havent tried bobbi brown’s lip glosses yet but these are raved by everyone who has used them. 🙂

    1. Everyone on IMBB knows of your lip gloss phase! Im currently in my liquid/cream lipstick phase – rather than lip glosses. Will come up with the review on those post 17th.

Yes, the texture of BB lip glosses IS amazing. Most of her products are raved about and have a cult following – that is actually so rare nowadays. Waiting to try their peach corrector – first thing I’ll buy when I get into their store next!

  2. kk i am a majjor hoarder of stuff that fits my budget *haan ji*
thnks to imbb im being put to good use *pompom* *pompom*
but my frends and family say i need treatment *hunterwali* *hunterwali*

    1. Im scared to death of the day my hubby opens the box of my makeup stuff. Thank God!!! he is clueless on the various products and the count of eyeliners, blushes, lipsticks, bronzers, etc. The day he finds out – you’ll see me requesting a blogsale to end all blogsales!! *spank* *spank*

Bottomline is – we DO NEED TREATMENT Gurrrl! *headbang* *headbang*

  3. Even i buy glosses each n every time just to know the fact that i dont like glosses.. But still u know v cant help it…each n every person have some or the other weakness… *hihi*

    1. Ya…we all have weaknesses. I keep thinking of trying layering gloss over lipstick to see what colour comes up but i never end up using them. Just lipstick. Then why buy?? Same story with lip pencils, you match them with the lippy shade while buying but ultimately don’t use. Pointless to buy, no?

  4. aww KK same here, i am not a lipgloss person at all, so now i have controlled myself to the limit that i don’t buy them i just do online visual shopping of glosses… *woot*

    1. Smart girl!! Thats the correct word – CONTROL – i need to learn to control the urge to get things just coz they look pretty! *haan ji* *haan ji*

  5. I need treatment too for hoarding makeup …. *headbang* *headbang* *scared* *scared* and yes, my family tells me so *woot* *woot* . Right now am in lavender/hot pink/violet/purple lipstick phase, just as I was last year at this time. Around Christmas, it will change to reds and brights again *woot* *woot*

    1. rofl rofl rofl We all do Sabrina!! I just got off that phase – wanted Rouge d’ Armani 600 only coz it was that colour and looked pretty. Proud of myself that haven’t bought it yet!! Controlling the urge! So tough!!!

Yes, Reds come out at Christmas! Merry Christmas in advance Sabrina!

  6. KK….only when I reached IMBB, I realized I was normal….I thought I was crazy hoarding stuff which I didn’t need, needed, would never use, bought aise hi. You know I even picked up those pads which claim to remove hair if you rub them in a circular motion, but I have not used them a single time *jalwa* *jalwa* *jalwa*

    1. IS THIS NORMAL? Thats my question? I have lippies n blushes i haven’t tried yet. Imagine – bought n kept!! I will not get into a count of my lippies or blushes but just to give you an idea – I had 8 bronzers with me – i don’t know if one is likely to finish one bronzer in this lifetime….but 8 – n all high end stuff – no wonder they go on the blogsale. And it was so difficult to part with stuff – i kept taking out stuff for the sale n putting them right back in! Im nuts!! This is not normal!!! *headbang* *headbang*

  7. Bobbi Brown Buff is a good shade for ladies with this skin tone: Bobbi Brown Medium/Dark; Bobbi Brown Honey 5; MAC Face and Body C5; Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere B50

Also it’s almost the exact shade as MAC Midi Mauve lipstick
