How to Choose Dresses for Women with Big Breasts

Achieving a 36-26-36 figure is every girl’s dream, but not all land up with this much-desired number.  Many women go for silicon implants and plastic surgery to make themselves fuller, but what about those who already are more than full.  Being top heavy is a big asset for many, but when it goes out of proportion it may cause embarrassment.  Having big breasts can make you awkward in social gatherings and I have seen many women adjusting their dupattas and shawls to escape from prying eyes.

If you have larger than normal mammary glands some measures can definitely let you tone down the appearance of your breasts and make your overall frame look appealing.  So, today, ignoring the ones with ‘small’ issues, we shall concentrate on appropriate dressing patterns for women with large breasts. Listed below are some of the few measures that can work wonders for women with big breasts.

1.  The first and foremost thing women with big breasts can do is to select the right bra.  A perfect bra can do wonders to boost one’s confidence and lift things up.  Lacy, thin strap ones cannot hold “things” in place, but broad strap ones work better even if they look matronly.  An exclusive article on how to choose the perfect bra by Priyanka is right here on IMBB.  Trinny and Susannah of “What Not To Wear” always emphasize that wearing the perfect bra which pulls up the bust in place makes women look younger than their age.  A badly fitting bra makes you look fat and distorts the lines of your clothing.  A balconnette style bra provides both the necessary support and lift and is especially flattering for older women as breasts are pulled forward as well as upwards, thus giving the illusion of a slimmer torso and preventing saggy boobs.

2. Attractive neck pieces whether they are simple ones or chunky ones can take a lot of attention off your breasts and can make you appear more stylish too.

3.  V-necks are great for big breasts.  Choose V-neck which will separate the bust and lengthen the body.  Those who have no problem showing a little bit of cleavage can opt for deeper V necks and team it with a simple silver or gold chain to make it all look elegant.

4.  Avoid polo necks like a plague.  Polo necks are for small bust sizes.  Polo neck dresses and tops project the top bulk and are a big no-no for those with large bust size.

5.  Accentuate your other body parts.  You can try to take the attention off your breasts by highlighting other areas like your legs.  If you are not a mini skirt and shorts girl, even then empire A-line knee length dresses will work for you.  These kind of dresses look very elegant and classic.

6.  Tunics with beautiful prints in the chest section can give the appearance of smaller breasts.  Also, short tops ride up and make everything look so jam packed.

7. If you are more into wearing ethnic outfits, then kurtis with not-so-heavy sequin work and patterns in the chest area would look great.  Take cue from types that Farah Khan usually wears.

8. Jackets work for every women, no matter what size and shape they are.  A must-have in every girl’s/women’s wardrobe.  For women with big breasts, they simply accentuate the overall appearance and help in playing down the largeness.

9. Trendy scarves are in every season and can be used to accessorize your look.  Big breasted women can use lovely scarves to take the load off their chest.

10. Layering makes boobs look smaller and the rest of the body (and legs) look longer. The best blouse style, according to Trinny and Susannah is one that is tight around the waist and loosening on the chest. This minimizes the waist and give the illusion of a smaller bust. Look for a tie just under the bust, or a corset style blouse, which really flatters the bustline.

11. Cropped cardigans.  Again, it balances out everything and gives a neat appearance.

12.  Avoid spaghetti straps, which accentuate the breasts and shoulders, and go for thicker, more supportive straps if you must wear a sleeveless top or dress.

13.  Avoid high and round necklines on tops and T-shirts which provide no break between your neck and bust, making them appear unified and therefore even bigger.

  1. i knowww !! how can she breathe in such a tight dress..

nice tips jomol, in my personal opinion, plain light coloured shirts with no prints make you look big too, so dark colours and patterns\designs would be another suggestion for large chested women.

  2. Great article jomol! Personally , it is challenge for people with larger “assets” to shop for clothes. People with smaller assets can get off with almost anything without looking vulgar. People with larger assets should most certainly go for full coverage bras. When I mean full , the under wire of the bra should go “almost” all the way up until your underarm. Secondly , understand that larger cups does not mean larger band size(32,34,36 etc) . So do not just keep increasing your bra size if it does not fit you. Instead go for bigger cup size(A,B,C,D) in the same band length. After so many failed bra fitting attempts , I think I have finally figured out my right bra size , cup size ! It is quite a challenge. 🙂

  3. Very well written artical jomol. I’d lyk 2 add 2 more points, Busty women should avoid
    1. Tops with Ruffles.
2.Shirts with pockets on either or both sides.
