I love matte lipsticks but I have super dry lips and need to exfoliate the lips before application. While you can make them at home with sugar and honey they tend to get sticky, and if you are on a go, this would not be so convenient. I pick up lip scrubs for this reason. I recently spotted Lip Ritual products from Essence and they had 3 products for 3 steps and I picked them up. Today’s review is all about the 1st step product. Read on to know more about ‘Essence My Beauty Lip Ritual Step 01 Peel It!’.

How to Use:
Step 1: Remove dead skin flakes with the creamy peeling. Contains shea butter for super soft results.
Step 2: Pamper the lips with the moisturizing and nourishing mask. Absorbs quickly and has a cooling effect.
Step 3: Apply the primer. The buttery texture offers intensive care with shea butter, macadamia oil and vitamin e, protects with SPF 15 and is the ideal basis for lipstick.

My Experience with Essence My Beauty Lip Ritual Step 01 Peel It!:

The peeling scrub comes in a tiny transparent tub with a white screw cap. The tiny package makes it easy to carry around. There is no seal or much information on the product. The package is made of good grade plastic and it doesn’t break. Once you open the screw cap, you can see the scrub. The scrub is lemon yellow in color and has tiny granules for exfoliation.

It has a pleasant smell but is not very overpowering. Since it is a tub package, it can be a little unhygienic to pick it up directly. I use a small spatula to scoop out the product. The product is tightly packed and is thick and you need to scoop out the product and is not to be rubbed around like a lip balm. I sometimes pick the product with my nails!

The scrub tastes very sweet due to the presence of sugar. The scrub particles are very tiny but the granules are strong enough for a good scrub. They are not harsh on the lips. A little product is more than enough for a good scrub. I can just slather a little on my lips and gently massage the lips in circular motion.

The granules do not dissolve fast and it stays for a while and goes everywhere around the lips but it is very easy to remove with a towel or you can rub it off and it is gone. Once scrubbed, the lips are very smooth and soft. It also looks plump and has a beautiful pink radiance to it. I feel that it doesn’t do much justice to the moisturization part.

I feel like I need to slather up a lip balm after the use. Even though it does remove dryness from the lips, the effect is not long. The lips do turn dry again in the winter within 3 hours and I can feel it on my lips. The scrub is very soft and it does not cause any redness or irritation.

It gently polishes the lips. However, for the results to last longer, you need to follow up with the mask which is Step 2 and the primer. This keeps the lips beautiful for around 5-6 hours but nothing more than that. Overall, it is just a temporary remedy and fixes lips instantly but not permanently.
