I have started loving lipsticks and have started exploring options now. Corals and plums are my new favourites. I recently spotted new velvet sticks on the Essence stand and couldn’t resist picking them up. So read on to know more about the Velvet stick in Plum Perfect.
What the company claims:
Go matt! The velvet sticks offer silky-matt results. The soft texture with a high coverage comes in a practical mini-format – and thanks to the large tip, application is quick and easy. They are available in delicate as well as intense colours.

My Experience with Essence Plum Perfect Velvet Stick Matt Lip Colour:
I love matt lipsticks and the velvet sticks are the perfect choices! The velvet sticks are big jumbo pencils and have to be sharpened. I have still not sharpened it so I am not yet sure how it would be post sharpening or how fragile it is when sharpened. I will keep you updated on that. The colour of the body and the cap is same and that way it is easier to recognize the colour of the lipstick. The cap is plastic and it is tight.
The velvet sticks are creamy and glide smoothly and can be easily applied on the lips without any fuss. The pigmentation is good and the colour is more of a dark pigmented red with some brown in it than plum like its name says. The velvet sticks are not matt but are semi matte; they have a light glossy side and this imparts a light shine to the lips. I wouldn’t mind a little gloss as it makes my lips plump.
The velvet sticks have good staying power for the price paid. The colour lasts for around 4 hours which includes eating and drinking. Without eating or drinking the colour goes on for around 6-7 hours which is pretty incredible. The colour however transfers to the coffee cups/spoons and also beneath the lips sometimes! But even though the colour transfers, the velvet sticks leave a light red stain that can go well with a bit of lip gloss!
The “Matt lipsticks” are well pigmented. However, the shades are limited, there are only 2 dark shades and rest all are n*des or light lip colours. I have used another shade of the same range and was quite happy with it, but with this shade, the colour deposits between the creases as the day passes by. I have dry lips and this is the biggest disadvantage of using this colour! If I forget to moisturize my lips, all that would be left is vertical streaks of colour on my lips. The Velvet Stick doesn’t provide any moisturisation, so it is necessary to moisturize the lips before application. The colour bleeds and being a dark shade, it is easily visible, so a lip liner is a must. So summing up,
