Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Eyeshadow 5-Color Palette – Rebel Metal Review

Hello lovely ladies,

After reviewing the Make Up For Ever Nudes To Go Palette, I have today a neutral palette from Estee Lauder – from their “Pure Color Envy Eyeshadow” range of 5 shadows in a compact.  The palette that I am reviewing today is “04 Rebel Metals.”

Packaging: The product comes packaged in a lovely golden and deep blue compact with a large mirror and some sponge applicators. However, the packaging of my product is different as I received it as a GWP.

My Experience with Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Eyeshadow 5-Color Palette – Rebel Metal:

The palette houses 5 shades of neutral golden metallic eyeshadows which would flatter almost all skin tones. Generally, these small eyeshadow palettes from the department store brand tend to have a highlighter shades and 1-2 matte shades to round things up. However, this particular palette does not have a single matte shade – as the name suggests, the shades are all metallic.

The palette runs a little warm and has some beautiful shades of gold to provide a nice gradation or ombre effect. However, you will need a matte crease or transition shade.

Shades:
Starting from the highlighter – the shades are:

1.  The first one – the highlighting shade – is a gorgeous beige golden shade, works very well for highlighting – be it the inner corners of the eye or the brow bone.
2. The second shade is a rose gold with a pearly satin finish.
3. The third shade is obviously a yellow gold shade. This is the shade which makes the eyes pop.
4. The fourth shade – darkest in the range – is a really deep shade of brown with slight bronze pearl which is more evident in the pan, than on the skin. It provides depth to the look and helps create a smokey effect.
5. The last shade is a bronzy taupe shade of gold. This one almost blends into the skin, my skin being medium (MAC NC30 for reference).

Texture:  The first 3 shades are extremely soft and creamy – swatch beautifully and transfer easily onto the lid. The 4th shade – the bronzey taupe – needs to be built a tad bit, which has little to do with the texture and more to do with the colour itself (in relation to my skin colour). The last shade, the deep brown seems a bit dry, as compared to the others, it swatches more sheer; however, can be easily built up. This could be an issue for some. However, for someone like me, who was new to eye makeup, this worked really well because it would allow me to build the colour up slowly.
Swatch 2

All the shades have a nice metallic sheen to them, no glitter particles, etc.

Staying Power:  With the primer on, this gave me about 7.5-8 hours of wear time when applied dry. When wet – the wear time increased by a couple of hours, but still does not live up to the 12-hour claim by the brand. I wish brands would not make such tall claims. It would be so much better for the customer if the company said 8 hours wear time and delivered 10 instead rather than doing it the other way round.

Pigmentation: The pigmentation is excellent.  It shows up beautifully except for the darkest shade, which is sheerer in first go, but can be built up in a couple of swipes to an absolutely opaque shade.

Pros of Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Eyeshadow 5-Color Palette – Rebel Metal:

  • Lovely array of metallic neutral shades.
  • No fragrance.
  • Soft, velvety, creamy texture.
  • No fallout.
  • Great pigmentation.
  • Blends like a dream.
  • Stays on for a long time.
  • The color works well even for office wear or day wear.
  • Does not irritate my eyes.

Cons of Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Eyeshadow 5-Color Palette – Rebel Metal:

  • You miss a matte shade! I understand when the palette says “Rebel Metals,” – it has all metallic shades. However, to have made it more user and travel friendly, a matte shade for transition/crease would have helped.

Do You Need to Buy Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Eyeshadow 5-Color Palette – Rebel Metal?
The palette, priced at $50, seems steep. However, it is in line with the department store prices of the brand. Yes, you can get bigger and better palettes at similar price point from other brands. So, you don’t really NEED this palette. However, if you do love neutrals and love metallic shades, this could be right up your alley and you will not regret buying it.
