A while ago, I had picked up the newly-launched Hard Candy Velvet Mousse Matte lip colors. I have already reviewed the shade “Cherry Blossom” from this range. And today, I am reviewing the shade “Sweet Pea.” So, read on to find out more about this shade.

My Experience with Hard Candy Velvet Mousse Sweet Pea Matte Lip Color:
Packaging: This lip color comes in an adorable tin packaging which also has a full size mirror inside it. The lipstick itself is placed on a little velvet bed inside the tin. The actual lipstick comes in a flat oval-shaped tube with a silver cap.
The applicator is a standard doe-shaped sponge. It picks up a good amount of the product and applies the gloss easily and precisely.
Overall, I am pretty impressed with the packaging and especially since Hard Candy is only charging 6 dollars for it.
Shade/Pigmentation: “Sweet Pea” is a light milky pink. This kind of shade does not look good on me at all and completely washes me out. Only those with very light skin tones should be able to carry it off. I personally dare not wear it in public. The lipstick is decently pigmented but it does not go completely opaque in a single swipe and some of your original lip color peeps through. You can layer it on for a better coverage. Layering does not lead to clumping but increases the time required for setting.
Texture/Finish: The texture is like any other liquid lipstick. It is sufficiently creamy and applies smoothly. It feels like velvet and there is no tug at all as you apply the lipstick. No lip balm is needed underneath. The finish is pretty much matte. It does not dry down immediately and takes a while to set (around 1 hour or so), but once it is set, it looks completely matte.
It does not feel drying on the lips and is quite lightweight and comfortable to wear. However, I felt that this particular shade settle into lip lines. The lipstick has a nice vanilla scent which I personally like. Sensitive noses might not like it, but it does not stay on for too long and hence might not be a deal breaker.
Lasting Power: The lipstick does transfer initially when it is not yet set, but once set, it is fairly budge proof and does not transfer. It does wear off from the inside of the mouth if you eat something too greasy. But overall, it pretty much lasts through meals and drinks. You need a makeup remover to remove all traces.
Overall, I would say the quality of the lipstick is pretty good for 6 dollars. This particular shade does not suit me though.

Would I Repurchase/Recommend Hard Candy Velvet Mousse Sweet Pea Matte Lip Color?
I will not recommend this particular shade as it will not suit most Indian skin tones. I will not repurchase the exact same shade but possess all the other shades from the range.
