  1. Rupam, I am using Maybelline Collosal Kajal, this stays put for 6 hours and gives a shiny finish, does not smudge but evaporates after 5 or 6 hours. Mine is oily combination skins and I stay in Hyd, its quite hot here and still this kajal wont let me down.

I have also used himalaya and lotus….himalaya kajal is very oily so the finish it gives is very shiny, but smudges and melts down to cheeks…this may be a good bet for winter….lotus kajal, stung my eyes so stopped using that one….

Hope this helps….have a great day ahead… :waytogo:

      1. i have maybelline colossal but it’s not that creamy as i wanted my kajal to be.. πŸ™
I fear using lotus one because i don’t like using stick form kajal..

    1. I want to try lakme satin….heard a lot abt it, but pls suggest a good sharpener, I need to pick up the right one….I was using the revlon one stroke eye definer pencil, now its become very blunt and I did not know what kinda sharpener works, I stopped using that….pls help Rati.

      1. akhila i have two colorbar sharpeners- one I have from past two years and one I bought last year. both are in excellent condition. I’ll do a review on that this week. Colorbar also has a duo sharpener and i dont have a bit of a doubt that it would be excellent.

Lakme has a dual sharpener. It works fine for all lakme “fat” pencils as well as your regular thin eye pencils πŸ˜€

  2. try Faces kajal.. sum1 reviewed it here few days bak.. i think thts 100 bucks..  or Lotus herbals :- around 120/- n Lakme satin :- 150/-

        1. good nids πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Went off to sleep at 10 only last night so feeling fresh today. :))

ow are you.. sooooooo very pretty avatar piccy you have put. :))

            1. thanxx a lot rati & sim :thanks: :thanks: :yahoo: :yahoo: … actually was bored seeing my last avatar :yuck: so thought of chging it today..

  3. if you are looking for non smudgy kajal – there is lakme satin (around 150 Rs) , mumtaz kajal has a kohl pencil (100 – 150 rs)that does not smudge.
If smudgy kajals are your thing and you live in Bombay you can get hashmi kajal pretty easily. It is 45 rs only. There is also 2 regular very reasonable kajal brands, one is rashmi kajal, comes in a dibbi (seems almost homemade) it costs 20- 30 Rs. There is also Mumtaz kajal in a stick form which is very rich. It costS 100 Rs. It is more like a kajal you can wear before you sleep. Its really rich. There is also a brand called Starlet. It gives out a stick kajal for 20 rs or so. And it is super dark, non smudgy. Only thing when you first buy it , you have to soften the kajal by rubbing the point on the back of your hand. But it is totally worth it

As you can see I am a total kajal lover, and since I have been wearing kajal since college I have had to hunt for cheap kajals that work… Btw none of these kajals have ever given me any trouble.

In case you are feeling extravagant and want a rich kajal, I recommend Shahnaz Hussain’s Kajal that sells for 300 rs.

    1. Supriya….sounds really good….I have a query, is it good to wear kajal before you sleep? if Yes, which kajal is best is advisable ? …..how does that benefit the eyes…pls answer…

      1. hi akhila , this is more a grandma’s beauty tip i grew up with, basically most kajals that contain almond oil, sesame oil, castor oil, help your eyelashes grow and keep your eyes lubricated. Like i remember i used to have eye goo that was super dry and would glue my eyes up (sounds gross , i know , but cannot help it.) every morning i would have lashes falling out due to this. i started cleaning my eyes with honey, washing it off and applying some rich oily kajal and going to sleep. this helped my lashes grow well. also since i love wearing kajal, wearing kajal in the night, gives it time to smudge etc, so when you have your bath and clean your under eye area, you have a lovely hint of kajal, that is so mild, so its not like a full blown panda look.

i would say shahnaz husain kajal is great, in fact even the mumtaz kajal is lovely. they make a kajal that they sell in blue tubes, it contains camphor and some almond oil. you can apply that to bed. also most companies make a specific baby kajal, which is low on pigment and high on oiliness. if your eyes have a dryness issue, this would be a lovely night treatment.

btw you should try sleeping with kajal and seeing what it looks like when you are ready to go out in the morning. the results are gorgeous.

        1. Supriya……wonderful…..your knowledge of kajal is commendable….u shd do an article abt beauty benefits of kajal, types of kajal, how to use them, and where to find them in major cities….pls … take this seriously….thanks for all the info….

Yes I did read somewer that kajal once applied in the night gives a nice smudgy smokey look for the day. I am from Hyd and not sure if I can find hashmi or mumtaj here, but in the meanwhile, I will use the eyetex kajal tiny tub, to line my eyes for the night and yeah this is a natural kajal, (I believe) and would not leave any ill effect on my eyes, and if it that helps in lash growth…thats a bonus, I have sparse lashes πŸ™

Please do a good article abt kajals…I really love wearing kajal the right way and the right one for my kinda skin…..thanks in advance. :thanks:

          1. hey you said you are in hyd, check out the area near charminar , lot of ittar shops there.. you may just find one. will certainly do a post on kajals. i remember some one here did a post on how to make kajal at home, try it if you want great at home treatment. btw for sparse lashes, castor oil works wonders. just take some on a mascara brush and brush it on your lashes before going to sleep. you can even apply a mix of olive oil and castor oil on your lashes if you find castor oil too heavy.

            1. thanks so much for the tips….I will surely do that….Rati did an article abt making kajal at home….that was very good….. :thanks:

    2. hey supriya.. I doubt if these brands are available in delhi except lakme.. And i have heard lakme satin smudges little.. πŸ™

      1. rupam, hashmi is easily available at cosmetic shops here.. and you know, kajals always smudge- some more and some less. A total “smudgeproof” kajal would not be a kajal at all.

          1. o makes sense , since hashmi is from pakistan , it should first come to delhi and then to mumbai. basically mumbai has this lovely place called mohd ali road, i think everyone should check it out once, they have lovely kajals, ittars, nice oils. in bombay hashmi kajal is sadly not widely available, i have to make a trip to mohd. ali road, or a place where there are lots of attar wala shops, say near the bandra masjid and so on.

lakme satin smudges very little, compared to oilier kajals, like biotique and himalaya, i feel lakme does not smudge much.

  4. The biotique kajal is very nice, smooth & wearable.. :lashes: It doesnt smudge much too.. :victory2: Price also comes around some 100 bucks… πŸ˜‰

  5. I like the Lotus one a lot. Even Faces Kajal which Ankita reviewed might me a good choice. Do try them at counter and see which one u like better.

  6. my vote is for colorbar or Maybelline colossal.. Deep color n smudge proof.. Colorbar costs 99 and Maybelline costs 150

    1. colorbar wala is smudgeproof? SA told me it’s not and handed me I define pencil which was to hard to apply on waterline. :stars:

  7. lotus wud be my recco… its dark, black and manages to stay on my extremely watery ees the longest….! if you want a long lasting kajal, why not try an eye pencil like colorbar i glide which is waterline safe???

  8. how is revlon kajal?? Is that in pencil packaging or stick form? Wats d price of it? I have its colorstay eye pencil.. But its hard to apply on waterline!!

    1. colourstay pencil is not meant for waterline, its only meant to be applied for lashline…pls dont use that as kajal.

    2. Hi Rupam,Revlon kajal is very good i am using it from past one year it stays for longer time .It is in the pencil form ,does’nt comes with a shapner but any local sharpner is okay for this.It is currently Rs.515 MRP.This kajal smuges less.I recommend this.Shade is ” blackest black”.

  9. i go with lakme satin toooo…bought it when rati reviewed it and it does stay put without much of smudge for a long time…and yes as rati rightly put every kajal will def smudge….;)

  10. i go wit lotus kajals too….been using it for quite sometime n it does not sting the eye…also it claims to contain almond oil n camphor also!!

  11. hello all …me anni …brand new to this wonderful site
i like colorbar….but what i do everyday is apply homemade kajal thickly before bath-time and the facewash, shampoo, soap and water all work their magic and after bath you have beautiful neat lined eyes…..touch up req after like 4 hours or so….sometimes you can even get a nice smokey eye look
ps i use my baby’s ghee wala kajal

  12. please let me know where we can get hashmi kajal from mumbai….i stay in nerul, navi mumbai and am a regular reader of yr columns

  13. I like Faces kajal (Rs 99) and Lotus herbals kajal (Rs 120). Most kajals will smudge a bit. You can set with eyeshadow or powder your under eye area well to control the smudging.

    1. i wish if lotus and faces had kajal in pencil form.. i would had picked them right away but as they are in stick form i am in two minds… actually i had a shahnaaz kajal and i hated to apply it as the tip became quite blunt and fatty!! :waiting: :methinks:

  14. lotus kajal does not go blunt..bt it does smudge…evn d maybelline colossal does not stay long..smudges less though…have not tried lakme black satin..bt heard mixed reviews..u can try colorbar I glide pencil in black..that would stay longer..
