How are you doing today? I am here to talk about my new purchase from Lancome’s brand new release. Excited, huh? Well, I was too excited about these new colorful eye liners which are supposed to give intense, flake free finish like liquid liners. Nothing new though as every low budget & high end brand is coming up with similar concept in the market. Moreover, I have tried many pencil eye liners before and these Lancome liners somehow failed to impress me, even with their attractive packaging and interesting claims. So, let’s read more about Lancome Ampoule Drama Liqui-Pencil Extreme Longwear Eyeliner.
What it is:
An extreme, long-wear, high-intensity color liqui-pencil eyeliner.
What it does:
This eyeliner has the high intensity color of a liquid liner and the ease of application of a pencil. Glide on smooth color while giving eyes maximum color intensity and all-day wear. Featuring a creamy, instantly blendable formula, it sets quickly for 24-hour wear—without budging or fading.

-Double Polymer Complex: Allows the formula to attach to the skin, so it never breaks.
-Volatile Gliding Oil: Provides nourishing color richness and pigment load that settles onto the lid.
-Soft Waxes: Adhere to the skin, leaving a creamy, easy glide, and blendable texture.
-Volatile Gliding Oils and Vitamin E: Nourish the skin for comfortable, all-day wear.
-Apply EFFACERNES Waterproof Protective Undereye Concealer to prime lids.
-Apply liner across top and bottom lid for desired look.
-To get the best precise lines, sharpen often and use gentle pressure when sharpening to protect your liner’s creamy formula.
-You can absolutely stack the liners, one next to the other, but cannot layer one on top of the other-remember treat this like a liquid to avoid peeling.
-Blend immediately and in the “sweet spot” as to not remove more liner than you intended.
-For the best winged liner, use Sephora Pro Gel Liner Brush #26 to help create a sharp line.
-Use gentle pressure and soft sketchy strokes when applying to deposit pigment and make it nice and bright.
-Smudge immediately after application when creating a soft or smoky liner look since this formula is ultra-waterproof.
My Experience with Lancome Ampoule Drama Liqui-Pencil Extreme Longwear Eyeliner:
The liner comes in a sleek, attractive and sharpenable pencil packaging with a safety lock cap. I miss the sharpener with this high-end product though, especially when we are paying almost 23 bucks for a pencil. It sure tempts me with its attractive, slender pencil packaging which is quite easy- peasy to use, and travel friendly as well. Coming over to my shade, Ampoule, it is described as pearlized purple, and is true to its description. But I was expecting a little more pigmentation and that’s what it actually imparts on my skin. I find it lighter for my skin tone as it often seems unnoticeable on my eyes.
I mean, it does give intensely pigmented, shimmery purple finish in one swipe, but those silver shimmers are are more intense than the color. Hence, it appears to be a fade purple liner with silver sparkles on my eyes. Swiping it multiple times would help with intense color pay off, but this trick won’t work for lining or defining our eyes. And, my first concern starts right from its creamy tip which is so creamy that it never gives me desired thin line in just one attempt. There is no doubt they are extremely creamy liners that slide on our eyelids without tugging and pulling. In fact, it is so creamy that we need to sharpen it after every 3rd-4th usage which is a big pain.
I feel that even though it is designed for beginners, still the texture is real time tricky for beginners as it becomes almost blunt and super creamy after 2-3 usages. Even it is really hard for the first time users to neatly draw or define eye contours. And ,my next concern which seems too big to ignore, is that I feel a burning sensation every time I wear it around the lower lash line, or even when it touched the waterline. The burning sensation does not subside on its own unless we remove it off our waterline. This is really scary for me as I usually use liners for tight lining and I wear liners pretty close to the waterline.
I had never experienced such burning sensation with any liner except the Revlon Colorstay one. Even I own its black shade which is a shimmer free matte shade and it hurts equally bad on my eyes, whenever I wear it closer to the waterline. I mean, I don’t think that shimmers have anything to do with irritation as every eye liner from this range is working the same way for me. So, it is more about the formula, it seems. Hence, lesson learnt; these liners are a serious no for your lower lashline and waterline. Now, limiting its usage to just upper lash line, does not impress me. I say so because the creamy tip is not ideal for creating cat eyes or winged liner. Secondly, it does not give even 12 hours of wear time on my oily eye lids with primer.
It usually starts fading by 10th hour on my oily eyelids. However, I am quite happy with its finish as once it sets, it does not budge or transfer onto the skin. But, that alone won’t convince me to get it again anytime soon. Over all, I am not impressed with this particular range and even this shade, and hence it might be a serious skip for me. But, I will recommend it to gals who love using pencil liners, plus it comes in variety of shades which sure are more intensely pigmented than this purple liner. They might impress you with their budge proof, smudge proof and intense finish.
Let’s sum up pros and cons:
Pros of Lancome Ampoule Drama Liqui-Pencil Extreme Longwear Eyeliner:
• A lightweight, pearlized purple pencil liner with a liquid liner like finish, more or less
• It smoothly glides on our eyelids without tugging or pulling at all
• It applies as a smooth liquid liner that sets within few minutes
• It is a completely waterproof liner and stays for good 8+ hours on my oily eyelids
• It does not transfer onto our skin nor does it ever stain my eyelids
• Quite hygienic and travel friendly
Cons of Lancome Ampoule Drama Liqui-Pencil Extreme Longwear Eyeliner:
• The pencil tip is oh-so-creamy that it becomes soft and blunt eve after first usage
• The shade appears negligible on my skin tone
• Multiple strokes with the liner won’t work as it is so creamy that it never gives thin, winged liner
• Frequent sharpening leads to wastage of the product as it is way creamy
• It stings badly when worn on the waterline or even closer to the lower lash line
• I didn’t get 24 hours of wear time with this liner anywhere
• Not suitable for beginners
• Seems pricey
Well, as per my scary experience, I feel this pencil liner is not suitable for beginners due to the stinging effect, and then its extremely creamy tip. These factors might steal our joy of practicing or wearing eye makeup as it happened to me. I think it is a skip for me.
