My Experience with Lorac Pro Contour Palette and Pro Contour Blush:
Packaging: This product comes in a similar packaging case like the Lorac Pro eyeshadow palette with the magnetic closure flip top cap. Inside, there is a good-sized mirror and 6 powders-# contour shades and 3 highlights. This product also comes with a contour brush. The bristles on this brush are in a narrow shape (the shape is similar to NARS Ita brush, but it is not as fluffy) . I do find that this brush does help you to get a super chiseled look. It is easy to deposit product onto the face using stippling motion with this brush, but it is not as easy to blend it out. I use this brush first in a stippling motion to apply product under the cheeks and drag it upwards to blend, though this is not my favorite method to contour, it is do-able. This brush also helps to effectively contour your hair line and under the jaw.
Texture and Blend-ability: These powders are very smooth and very similar to the Lorac Pro matte eye shadows. These powders too kick up a lot of product when you dip your brush in and due to the very powdery texture, your brush picks up a whole lot of product even with the lightest tap. You have to be careful to tap off excess powder from your brush or you will have tiger stripes on your face, which does not look good. These powders though are incredibly easy to blend and do not feel chalky or streaky.
Pigmentation: All the powders in this kit are incredibly pigmented, even the highlight shades. They show up beautifully on the skin and effective contour and highlight wherever placed on the face. I wouldn’t really consider this contour kit to be for everyone, especially if you are just beginning to learn to contour, you will have a difficult time with this kit as it is too pigmented which is not always a good quality for contour powders as you can go overboard without even realizing.
Shade: 5 out of the 6 shades in the kit are matte.
Beige highlight: True to the name, this a neutral beige highlight. Can be used to highlight for very fair to light skin tones. I use this shade interchangeably or sometimes mixed with yellow highlight to set my under eye and brighten it as well as well as in the middle of face, on areas that I have not contoured to bring forth the area and add dimension.
Yellow Highlight: True to its name, this is a pale yellow highlight. Can be used as a highlight for light-medium skin tones. The yellow tone in this shade neutralizes and cancels out redness in the skin. I use this shade interchangeably or sometimes mixed with beige highlight to set my under eye and brighten it as well in the middle area of the face, on areas, I have not contoured to bring forth the area and add dimension.
Shimmer highlight: This is a pale silvery frosty highlight. It is intensely pigmented and will give you an intense shimmery highlight and glow. The shimmer particles are fine and not chunky. It does not accentuate pores or fine lines.
Light contour: This is a light greyish undertones contour shade. This shade is best to contour with as it mimics natural shadows. I use this instead of medium contour when I want a more natural-looking contour. I also use this shade interchangeably or mixed with medium contour to carve out the cheeks and use along hairline and under chin. It will work best for those with light – medium skin tone.
Deep contour: This shade is very deep brown. I cannot use this shade as it is too dark to look natural on my light-medium skin tone. Hence this color remains untouched by me in this kit. But if you are someone with a deeper skin tone, you will be able to find some use out of this.
Medium contour: This shade is a nice deep milk chocolate brown. It has a neutral undertone and works well with my light medium skin tone. I use this instead of Light contour when I want a more intense contour. I also use this shade interchangeably or mixed with Light Contour to carve out the cheeks and use along hairline and under chin. It will work best for those with light – medium skin tone
Staying Power: These powders are truly long wearing. They stay flawlessly for over 8+ hours on my skin. It did not highlight my dry patches and when used to set my under eye, it also kept the area oil free for 5-6 hours.
Overall, a truly impressive product. I am just as impressed with the quality of the powders in this kit as I was with the Lorac Pro eyeshadows. They are very pigmented which can work in favor or against you depending on the skill level you are with contouring and these shades will work across the spectrum of most skin tones including deep. Plus this kit also comes with a handy useful good-quality brush. This kit comes neck-in-neck in competition with my favorite Kat Von D Shade Light Contour Kit, but the plus of this Lorac kit is that it has a shimmery shade which is lacking the KVD kit. I will recommend this kit 🙂
