Hey Everyone 🙂
This is my second lipstick ever. The first one was Maybelline’s B22 Watershine, which I loved for its color, but hated for its terrible staying power. I wanted a similar nude that actually stays, so I decided to try Lotus Herbals FloralSTAY Long Lasting Lip Color with SPF 10. I’m going to elaborate on the good and the bad of this lipstick in this review.
Rs. 345 for 3.4 gms.
FloralSTAY 434 Bubbly Nude.
Not mentioned anywhere.
This lipstick is very pigmented and applies well. It doesn’t go on patchy and you require only one swipe for the color to show up. I ordered this online because where I live, we don’t have any Lotus counters. Had there been Lotus counters in my city, I would have swatched this lipstick there, and would not have bought it, because I don’t like the color much and I’ll tell you why.
I want a nude color, plain and simple and not a color that looks like a toned-down maroon/brown mix.
My lip color is “not” maroon, naturally, and I expect a “nude” color to, if not completely, at least slightly resemble my natural lip color. Take a look at the swatches below.
I regard the Maybelline B22 to be pretty much my perfect nude shade. I’m not too concerned with the multiple swipe swatches, since any color layered over and over will obviously look darker and deeper. However, take a look at the single swipe swatches. The “B22” is pinkish, like normal lips, and the “Bubbly Nude” is maroon! Just one swipe of it makes me look like I’ve used a maroon/brown lipstick. It is possible that this works for others, but for my lips, it is just too maroonish-brown. The color is not maroon, but it does have strong maroon tones when worn on my lips.
The swatch picture is closely accurate in terms of the color. Granted my cupboard isn’t that color, nor is my hand, but since the swatches are accurate, it’s definitely the best picture for swatches! 😛
As you can see, this color looks very different in different lights! In the picture way above (the picture with only the lipstick bullet showing), it looks kind of berry colored. In my first lip swatch (with flash), it looks very pink! It doesn’t even look a bit like that for real!
In the second lip swatch (no flash, at night, with the light on), it looks kind of okay, and I wouldn’t have minded if it looked like that for real! One good thing I can say for this, is that even if I do wear it on its own and have my picture taken, it’s going to look kind of nude in the pictures even if not actually on my lips!
In the last picture, it looks similar to the first one!
About 4-5 hours. I love this lipstick for its staying power! This makes it a very good base lipstick :yahoo:
I don’t find this drying, even though it’s matte, but you will need to exfoliate well and have moisturized lips before you can put this on. It could be drying for those who have lips prone to drying out, though.
Very ordinary packaging. I would have liked it if it wasn’t such a tacky pink, but then the color of the plastic encasing and the cardboard box it comes in doesn’t really matter.
Has a very mild smell to it, but no taste.
Yes, definitely! Tried and tested! :haanji: It will fade a bit with intense kissing *ahem* but will NOT rub off onto the other person’s lips/face. Good thing, yeah? 😀
Pros of Lotus Herbals FloralSTAY Lipstick in Bubbly Nude:
- Glides on very smoothly.
- Very pigmented.
- True to its claim of being long lasting.
- Contains SPF 10.
- Kissproof!
- Has aloe vera and avocado extracts.
- Not expensive.
- Okay packaging.
- When it wears off (after about 4 hours), it doesn’t look patchy, but leaves a stain on the lips that is very even and actually nice-looking! :))
- Suitable for vegetarians.
- Good base color.
Cons of Lotus Herbals FloralSTAY Lipstick in Bubbly Nude:
- Will accentuate dry lips.
- Not nude! Grrrr!!!
How I Made It Work For Me?
I am very disappointed with the color of this lipstick. In all other respects, this lipstick gets high marks from me. It stays on wonderfully, it doesn’t bleed or smudge, and is kissproof, as they say. The color, on the other hand, is not my kind of nude. However, now that I’ve bought it, I had to find a way to make it work.
This is what I do:
Step 1: Prep my lips the regular way (exfoliate if needed; I apply a lip balm if needed and then wipe it off).
Step 2: I apply dots of this lipstick on my lips and blend to create an even “base coat.”
Step 3: I let it sit till it becomes nearly smudge-proof, maybe 5 minutes or so.
Step 4: I apply either Maybelline B22 Watershine (the only other lipstick I own) or any gloss, over it, and I’m done!
This process keeps my color in place, because of the lipstick being used as a base. This way, I get nude lips (from the lipstick I used in Step 4) or glossy lips (from the gloss), and they stay on for longer than they otherwise would!
If you like the color (swatch it at the counter and see), definitely a wonderful lipstick, highly recommended. Many people find this a wonderful nude shade. I wonder why I didn’t find it nude at all. Perhaps my perception of “nude” is skewed, or the piece I got is mysteriously different (!!!) or perhaps I now feel that “nude” is the Kim Kardashian color, and that’s why I don’t find this nude, I dunno! 😛 Either way, the color was a HUGE let-down. Apart from that, though, I love this lipstick, and now I can tell people I have “base” lipsticks also! 😀
Note: I tried this lipstick on my mom and it came out looking very nice and actually nude on her. I am yellow toned, strongly, so it is possible that it doesn’t look good against my complexion. Also, my mom is pink toned, and is lighter than I am, so it’s possible that’s why it looked nice on her.
