MAC Cream Colour Base HUSH- Review

MAC Cream Colour Base in HUSH- Review

Like every IMBB girl, me too wanted MAC paint pot in Painterly or Soft Ochre. But like everybody, I got the same answer- “It’s out of stock”.
So when I was shopping with Rati in December, I got this Cream Colour Base in Hush.

Price: Rs. 1000/- for 3.2 g.

What MAC says?

Versatile and multi-purpose, Cream Colour Base can be applied directly to bare skin, or layered over foundation, moisturizer, or powder. Apply with a brush, sponge, or fingers. Colour effects range from a light veil to highly dramatic, depending on method of application. Fragrance-free. (The following shades are not recommended for use in lip area: Fawntastic and Black. The following shades are not recommended for use in the eye area: Fabulush and Improper Copper.)

So the one I got, Hush, is actually good for eyes, lips and cheeks.

Here’s my Cream Colour Base:

The shade is Hush. The finish is Frost:

Here’s a swatch of the CCB. It’s just one swipe.

What I really love about MAC CCB Hush:

1. It’s extremely light. When I apply it on my lids, my lids feel bare. There is no weight, no stickiness (biggest con of UDPP) or oiliness.
2. It just glides easily on the lids. No need to tug and oull.
3. It sets in 15-20 seconds, giving you plenty of time to blend and spread. UDPP or for that matter MUFE Aqua Cream set too quickly, so that you need nimble fingers.
4. Once set, it is budge-proof, smudge-proof and water/sweat/tears-proof.
5. Though the texture is highly frosty, it goes almost sheer on the eyes. You can build it up as much as you want.
6. You can very easily go from sheer translucence to frosty opacity. Just layer it on.
7. It works for shimmery, satiny or matte eye shadows and blushes.
8. Here’s a swatch of Maybelline Chai Latte quad’s darkest shade with and without base:

You can see how good the colour pay-off is. Also though the shade above is perfectly matte, notice how the base subtly illuminates it.
9. The MAC MUA who applied this on me was telling me the same thing, but I didn’t believe him till I tried it myself. 😛
10. Here’s a swatch of MAC Beauty Powder in Briar Rose. This blush has satin finish, and look how pretty it look on top of the base. Brighter and glowing!!!

11. The CCB makes my shadows and blush completely waterproof. I have held my hand under running water before clicking this pic. The bare swatch got washed off. But take a look at the swatch with base!!! As good as new!!! 😀 😀 😀

12. My eye shadows and blushes last forever on top of the CCB.
13. Eyeshadows stay on without creasing for at least 4-5 hours.
14. I hardly wear eye makeup and blushes without this nowadays.
15. The packaging is classy MAC.
16. I generally apply this on my eyes with flat e/s brush and on my cheeks using my fingers.
17. It’s gonna last forever. 😛 One swipe is enough to cover my entire lid. And I have enormous eyes!!!
18. I am using this since December and it look barely touched.
19. This particular shade should work for all complexions.

What I don’t like about MAC CCB:
1. This shade looks very awkward on my lips. But that’s wholly and solely my problem, and doesn’t take away any points from the product.

This has become a staple in my kit. I use it almost everyday and I want to buy many more shades of this. Loving it totally!!!

So girls, if you are not getting Paint pots, this is a worthy replacement.

My rating: :-* :-* :-* :-*

Hope you liked the review.

Lots of love
Mrunmayee

  1. M…..i want to know how you use ittt…i mean on your cheeks…after foundation – before foundation????? ?:) ?:) ?:)

    1. Priya, you can use it as a highlighter. You can use it as a primer under the powder eyeshadow. you can use it on its own as a cream eyeshadow. you can use it as a cream blush and then top it with a powder blush. it would not only give sheen but would also make your makeup last longer. 🙂

      1. I BUYYYYYYYYYYYYYY …is nice….and it makes the colour more alive kinds…and is water resistant..me want want wantttttttttttttttttt….that way I dont need to use foundation…primer and this and that’s it…it will stay on..

        1. Yeah it will..

Waise bhi summer mein who wears foundation… This makes the blush look supper smooth and it just lasts and lasts and lasts…..

    2. Hey Priya.. I use it after foundation and before powder blush..

As you would use a cream blush beneath a powder one to make the powder one last longer na, waisehi!!! But it works much better than cream blush in holding the powder blush in place..

Hope you got what I am trying to say.. 🙁

  2. Nice it is na Mrun. :-* Me too love my CCB in Improper Copper. Great as highligher. I know its not suppose to be used on eyes but I still use it over gold and copper e/s
Since u used Beauty Powder above for testing just wanted to ask…
I am NC 42….will Briar Rose look good on my skin tone?? ?:) ?:) ?:)

    1. Arey Jinal.. Briar Rose would look best on NC 40 and above!!! I am NC 44 and it looks so natural on me.. 😉 😉

I am completely fascinated by cool undertones right now.. I am trying all blues and purples and mauves.. And it looks very good on my dark skin.. :))

And you gotta love ur CCB!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

      1. really…..I thought it was just for lighter skin tones :))
me happy happy :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
I will get this soon….and yeah me too love my CCB O:) O:) O:)

  4. This is a much more versatile product than paint pots! Thanks fr reviewing Mrunmayee. I love how it makes not just the eye shadows but the blush also waterproof.

    1. Yes Ankita.. Me never wanted a base for blush.. But I am so addicted to this now, that i hardly wear my blush w/o this!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

    1. Thanks Cali!!! It just makes any powder product pop!!! :woot: :woot: :woot:

I just don’t need to worry abt poorly pigmented products.. :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

    1. I won’t say it’s better than paint pots, as I haven’t used those.. But this is surely multi purpose..

    1. Try both Anks!!! I was soo disappointed when i cudn’t get my hands on painterly and soft ochre.. But this is working VERY well for me.. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

But I’ll get my paint pot too as soon as I see one!!! Me just super greedy!!!

  5. Hey Ikku!!! This is truly multi purpose.. Me and even Rati, we were worried about the frosty finish.. But it adds a superb sheen to my matte e/s and blushes!!

For fairer girls, it would work for the lips even!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

    1. It is totally worth the price Alexandra.. I require only one swipe of it for one eye.

      :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

  6. Thanks for this nice review & pics, Mrun. I’ve heard so much about this. Is it OK for oily skinners like me??

    1. Hey Sabrina.. As i do not have oily skin or oily lids, i won’t be able to give you a precise opinion.. 😕

But this does not give a matte finish, and when applied alone looks very shiny and frosty. So I’d suggest you try the CCB firsthand before buying. :))

  7. Again 1 more product added in my MAC wishlist    … this is sumthing more thaan the paint pots i think..that Rati always use as an e/s base.. but i read Jinal’s review too of the CCB.. this is multipurpose..rght mrun ?:) ?:)

    1. Yes it is multi purpose Nids.. I haven’t used paint pots so I can’t compare these two.. :((

But this fulfills all the requirements for a good e/s base and also works well as brow bone highlighter, blush base, cheek highlighter and sheer lipstick(for some skin tones).

Only if you are averted towards frost finish should you avoid this.
