Cushion foundation concept has taken the beauty world by storm and I could not resist to be not a part of it. Now when MAC has come up with one, I had to try it. As you know availability of MAC products is an issue in India, I was lucky enough to get my shade at one go. Read on for my thoughts on this Matchmaster compact.

My Experience with MAC Matchmaster Shade Intelligence Compact:

The packaging as you can see, is just like any other cushion foundation, with the signature style of MAC compacts. The outer packaging has all the detailed information regarding the product. The pan of the compact is removable and refills are available separately. So, once you are done with the foundation, keep the outer case and get a fresh refill.

The sponge that comes along is very cute and handy, but the top of the sponge is cracking up, I have no idea why! Though it is not creating any mess, but at this price point, everything better be in place. The cushion has a lot of liquid in it which is very water-y to touch. Dabbing the sponge lightly picks up a good quantity in one go.

It gives medium to buildable coverage but those who are looking for a full coverage foundation, stay away from this. I personally like sheer finish and hence it is a good choice for me. It gives about 50% coverage in one layer. The second layer will add up to the coverage but not up to the limit where you can skip other base products. Good thing is that it does not cake up on layering; also it does not feel oily or greasy on a hot humid day. It feels lightweight and slightly dewy on the skin.

It has no distinct fragrance to it but those who know MAC products, there is a hint of chemical fragrance going on. Thankfully, it does not oxidize on the skin and stays fresh and fine for more than 6 hours at a stretch. Adding primer beneath and a layer of powder on top will keep it longer for sure.

Shade selection is an issue in my opinion as there are only 12 shades available and it is differently numbered from the original Matchmaster numbering. I would highly suggest you to go to the store, get it applied on the face, go out in daylight and then decide on it. Also worth mentioning is that it applies well with foundation brush but the coverage is better with the sponge that comes along. It is good but not the best out there. If you are an ardent lover of MAC, try this out at the store, you might find a good shade match.

• Sponge top is cracking up already.
• Cannot determine the quantity left.
• Shade selection is tricky.
