Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color Blush H106 Review

Hey peeps!

As promised, while reviewing the Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighter in Precious Petals, I am going to continue with some face product reviews. So, today’s review is on Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color Blush H106. I was working on two lipstick reviews and I had to literally shelve them midway because I had to review this first!! So, let us get on with it!

Packaging:
The individual metal pan comes packaged in a plastic tray with cover. The tray has an outer cardboard box. These need to go into a Make Up For Ever magnetised palette, especially designed for these. Considering that it is a disposable packaging, I found the plastic tray quite sturdy and providing better buffer than what is provided by some other brands for their “pop-into-a-pan” refills. I did travel with this in this packaging itself and it remained unscathed. Having said that, I would not advice you to buy this to be used out of this packaging. As you can see, I have knocked the pan twice in an attempt to open the packaging. Worse, one could end up with it falling to the ground – where it is bound to shatter. So, you will need to pop it into a magnetised palette.

My Experience with Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color Blush H106:

A quick brief on these (fairly) new release from Make Up Forever. The Artist Face Colour is basically MUFE’s new powder formula for face products. So, you have 34 different shades to choose from, which vary in finish apart from colour – giving you options for highlighting, blush, and sculpting powders. MUFE continues to work with numbers rather than shade names. The prefix of the number is either H, B or S – corresponding to the respective product type – Highlight, Blush or Sculpt.

Having said that, do note that some sculpting shades are open to be used as blush which maybe because of the skin tone on which they are being used or simply because they have been designed to be used as a “sculpting shade” in the draping technique of application of blushes. If you need more information on draping technique, please comment and I will clarify.

A couple of things to note – all 34 shades are not available in all locations that MUFE is sold. Meaning, depending on the demographics of the location, certain select shades are shared with the Sephora in that country. I will share pictures of the shade options that I had access to, through my Insta so that this post doesn’t stretch more than is necessary. Unfortunately, the Sephora in India is still working on the products from the previous millennium. Most of what we have in stock are the the products from the long discontinued range on MUFE. 🙁

Last point before I get into the review, you have the choice of buying just one shade and popping it into an individual blush size magnetic palette from MUFE or taking two of these to pop into a duo or even 3 to pop into an XL sized palette (will review that soon). Here is my point, when you buy these in US, you are offered discount if you buy 2 or more shades. So much so that, if you buy 3 shades, you will basically pay for two; however, this option is not available in other Sephora outlets (which do stock them) across the globe, which is so unfair!!!

Shade: Quick note on what is available in highlight options in this range. There were basically 4 highlight shade options – two shimmer and two matte shades. In shimmers, one was a pinkish shimmer H102 and the other was this warm golden shimmer. Needless to say, I opted for this, so it was selection by elimination, rather than “OMG!! I want this highlight!!”

The shade is described as a “shimmery champagne highlight” is a fairly apt description from the branding perspective because I find the shade quite similar to Champagne Pop. Swatched, they look fairly similar. Blended out, Champagne Pop has a bit more gold in it while this one is a tad bit more frosted and metallic in finish. So this one is basically a medium gold with warm undertones and a distinct metallic sheen, so do note that this one is geared towards people who like a more distinct or more pronounced highlight effect.

Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color Blush H106 texture

It does look a tad bit dark in the pan but swatches lighter, maybe because of the metallic-ness. I feel it works really well for the medium skin toned Asian customer. It would look stunning on deeper skin tone too.

Texture: The texture feels dense but blends smoothly. The product is finely milled, creamy smooth and extremely blendable. It goes on smoothly and blends well on the skin. If used heavy handedly, like in Insta pics, the metallic sheen does emphasise texture, but since most of the Insta pics get photoshopped or have filters added to them, I guess it won’t make so much of a difference! 😉 Jokes apart, if blended well, the highlight does look lovely and will not emphasise the texture of the skin too much.

Pigmentation: Pigmentation is amazing. This 5 gm pan can last you a life time! Even when you blend it through, the gold sheen is fairly apparent. So, it has good pigmentation, for a highlighter. You do not need much to create a BAM!

Longevity: The product wears exceptionally well. It stays put for 7-8 hours – which is a lot on my prepped oily skin.

Refer my pics – I have applied it over the cheekbones, the bridge of my nose and the cupid’s bow.

MUFE H106 Highlighter

Pros of Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color Blush H106:

  • Finely milled, soft, smooth powder.
  • A lovely warm gold highlighter.
  • Has a metallic sheen – ideal for people who like a more obvious highlight.
  • Blends easily.
  • Fairly long-lasting – even with my oily skin.
  • The colour can be made to look subtle but you get the feel that it is designed for a more pronounced highlight.
  • Did not break me out.
  • A little product goes a long way.
  • Decent packaging.
  • Practical packaging – once you pop it into the MUFE palette.

Cons of Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color Blush H106:

  • Can accentuate pores if used heavily.

IMBB Rating:
4.8/5

If metallic is the way you roll with your highlight, I would say go for it. It is definitely good quality. MUFE products rarely disappoint. In that vein, I totally recommend it, but it didn’t seem like something which you NEED to get right now! You know what I mean? However, on a more personal front, I loved the idea of being able to pick your shades and make your own palette and wanted to create one which could be my go to – for home or outside. However, this highlight doesn’t work into that scheme of things. I don’t think this metallic is what I would prefer for my highlight on a day-to-day basis. Also, I wonder if in a lot of 34 shades, maybe 1-2 more could have been highlight options – something more easy to use highlighters – not matte, but not metallic either. Lastly, if you do plan to make a 3-pan palette, I suggest that you buy it from US – else it turns out a tad bit too expensive!!

    1. Rati, you have no idea how tough it was to select the blush shades. I picked it up from the store before we left our destination for the airport. I thought i had the shades selected and i had to just pay and walk away. I ended up spending 1 hour trying to figure which one of the peach/warm orange shades to pick…almost got late for my flight!! Hubby was NOT HAPPY!!

  1. I am blinded by all this gold stuff you are reviewing KK 😛 BTW, I can’t still get over ysterday’s wet n wild highlighter – it looks so gorgeous!

    1. Oh! Is gold blinding you Jomol!! That’ll be a first!! LOL!

That Wet N Wild one is so stunning! If it had a ELXVB type of packaging – that would be a keeper!

Thanks for putting this up super quick!
