I hope the passing winters are treating you well. Today I am here with a much raved and trending lip product type in the market – Lip Crayons. And this one happens to be by Max Factor (I actually abide by Max Factor when it comes to lip and face make-up, dunnoe). It is called a Giant Pen Stick instead. And the one here is a very flattering shade for us Indian beauties, i.e., Foxy Amber.
What the company claims (as taken from the official website):
One Step to Total Definition. In a spectrum of shades, for defined, bold colour that pops.
Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick – bold, defined colour for lips that pop.
• Bold, larger-than-life colour
• Strong pigmentation
• Sculpted tip for definition
• Smooth formula glides on
• Line and fill lips in-one
• Texture allows for blending
Ingredients: not mentioned on the stick. But… here it is from their official website;
Bis-Behenyl/Isostearyl/Phytosteryl Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Isocetyl Stearate, Diisostearyl Malate, Polybutene, Silica, Synthetic Wax, Mica, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Beeswax, Glyceryl Caprylate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Tocopherol, Propylparaben, [(+/-) MAY CONTAIN: CI 15850, CI 45380, CI 45410, CI 77491, CI 77499, CI 77891]
My Experience with Max Factor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick in 25 Foxy Amber:
Like you all I also went for lip crayon shopping. Hopping from brand to brand and rejecting for the lack of shade selection for my skin tone I ended up at my favourite Max Factor counter (when it comes to lip products). They too stocked upon these crayon style lip products, but with the name Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick. After swatching a couple of shades, and then being all confused between Hot Chocolate (a delectable n*de) and Foxy Amber, I went ahead with Foxy Amber, that I believe (and know) would suit a wide range of skin tones.
Texture/Finish/Longevity: The texture is smooth. Creamy. Satin-y. It is so creamy that it does tend to lead towards product wastage. The finish is more of a moisturising/hydrating balm. One can definitely skip a lip balm beneath this. The shade goes opaque in two swipes and stays put as it is for a good 4-4.5 hours after which it fades a bit (especially from the centre of the lower lip). The formula does transfer, but will not leave lips bare. The lips feel a lot moisturised by the end of the day.
Packaging: The packaging is a typical fat pencil form, that requires frequent sharpening due to the product’s creamy texture. The pencil is quite compact and the transparent cap fits snugly. The end of the pencil as well as the see-through cap helps in the identification of shades, in case you hoard a couple more.
Shade: The shade is a beautiful warm rosy pink that looks very pretty on the lips. It adapts to almost any kind of eye makeup and would go with a smoky eye or a plain no makeup look as well. It definitely does not wash out the complexion and would suit a range of complexions (I emphasise again!)
Pros of Max Factor Colour Elixir Giant Pen Stick in 25 Foxy Amber:
• Hydrating and very moisturising. One can skip a balm underneath any day.
• Leaves lips plump and glossy.
• A good wear time for a glossy product_ 4 to 4.5 hours
• Glides on easily, is creamy and does not bleed.
• Compact packaging with easy shade identification.
On my mom’s moderately pigmented lips:
Cons of Max Factor Colour Elixir in 25 Foxy Amber:
• The pencil requires frequent sharpening which leads to product wastage and changes the tip of the lip product. In fact, the pencil completely loses its attractive shape.
Would I Recommend/Repurchase? Why, yes! I would however go for the n*de this time perhaps.
