When I first came across this product, I was not interested in using it because of the percentage of acids in it, but later, I convinced myself to try this The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% Peeling Solution. Let us see how this product worked for me.

My Experience with The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% Peeling Solution:

Before this product, my experience with acids was limited to 7% of AHA and 4% of BHA. Though they worked wonderfully, they did not cater to my old scars and blemished skin tone, so I decided to try this product. This is a high concentration of direct acid product and so patch testing is very essential. Also if you are new to acids, it might sting a lot. A skin that is exposed to acids will tolerate this product better.

I first patch tested it on a part in my face where I am most sensitive. If you are very sensitive, I would suggest patch testing it on the neck first. During patch testing, I left the product for 5 minutes and then washed off. I did not experience any adverse reaction or severe tingling. I used the product on my face a whole week later.

The product is red in colour and that is due to the Tasmanian pepperberry which is supposed to be the one responsible for reducing the tingling sensation from the acids. This product contains AHAs such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, Tartaric acid, Citric acid and BHA in the form of salicylic acid. It also contains hyaluronic acid. Usually AHA products contain only a single AHA in them. This solution contains the combined concentration of all these acids.

The product comes in a glass bottle with a dropper. The glass bottle is heavy and prone for breakage. The solution itself is bright red in colour and it has a gel-like consistency. Because of the gel-like consistency, it is easy to spread the solution on the face and also only a small amount of product is necessary for a single use. Since it is coloured, you can apply evenly on the face without missing any part.

The solution does smell like acids in the laboratory, but it is tolerable. On applying this peeling solution to my face, initially, I didn’t feel any tingling sensation, but after a minute or so, my face started feeling it. I could compare the sensation to applying hot water towel over the face and nothing more. It was surprisingly so pleasant and my fears about the stinging were put to rest, but I would like to mention here that my face is used to acids that I have tried previously, but for someone who has sensitive skin, there might be a little more tingling.

I left the product for 7 to 8 minutes only. The brand advises us not to let the product stay on the face for more than 10 minutes. This peeling solution is easy to wash off and does not leave any stain despite the strong colour.

The results were immediate and so visible. I purposely did not use any exfoliating products from 3 days before using it, so the results were even more dramatic I must say.

My skin felt so smooth and soft. The feeling was similar to having applied a hundred sheet masks without the hydration. The skin tone and the blemishes did not change suddenly after the first usage, but the results were promising.

I used this solution the next week and after a month, now I can say that it really does what it claims.

One worrying part is that it is very drying the next day, so it is advisable to follow it up with a hydrating mask/sheet mask if possible. Also, after using such a treatment, sunscreen application is very important.

Pros of The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% Peeling Solution:

  • It is pleasant to use and doesn’t sting badly.
  • It works right from the first usage.
  • Visible results in a short time, 10 minutes once a week is enough.
  • Price is affordable compared to costlier parlour visits.
  • Only a small amount of product required and 30 ml will probably last at least for 6 months.

Cons of The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% Peeling Solution:

  • It is drying (especially during winters) the day after applying.

  1. Hey, thanks for the review. I have a few questions though. Does this have a downtime like the other chemical peels? Does the skin peel at all? Also, what is the improvement on your scars and blemishes that you mentioned you had previously? I had hormonal acne. With regular chemical peels the acne is now under a little control but it has left severe scars which is too stubborn. I was thinking of giving this a try. Is it worth it?
