My Take on Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Sultry Sable:
No doubt, the name “Sultry Sable” is slightly confusing. In fact, I find it difficult to describe almost all Revlon lipsticks! Their colours, although beautiful, are very hard to pinpoint and identify.
Sultry Sable is definitely a fall-winter colour for me. It is a deep plum colour with obvious purple undertones. It’s something like a brownish-reddish purple lipstick, I think. I must state at the start that I am not really a fan of purple lipsticks. This one was a gift. I don’t think that I would have opted for this shade on my own.
I like the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks in general. I seem to think that they are a blend between the MAC lustre finish and the amplified finish. This particular shade is definitely very creamy and very lustrous as well. The colour is fairly rich – the pigmentation is quite good. The lustrous finish allows this lipstick to glide on to your lips. I should also mention that this lipstick is totally shimmer free and frost-free.
On the lips, this lipstick feels super creamy and moisturising. I find most lipsticks to be quite drying on my lips, but this one is very, very hydrating. However, owing to its buttery and creamy texture, this one can go all wrong if not applied precisely with a lip brush and with a lip liner underneath. In the lip swatches, I have done neither and you can see that it’s not the best application of the lipstick! This lipstick is also quite transferable for the same reason. It doesn’t have a great staying power and you will need to reapply it every 1-2 hours. However, I do think that a lip liner underneath can go a long way to enhance the staying power of this lipstick.
This lipstick doesn’t really settle in the fine lines of my lips. I am always very diligent about exfoliating and moisturising my lips before wearing any lipstick since I have dry lips. However, this one can tend to bleed. Yet again, the lip liner will help in this regard.
As with all Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks, this one is also fragrance-free. Summing it up, the colour is a deep plum-purple (most apt for the fall-winter season, in my opinion), the finish is sort of lustrous, the pigmentation is very good (one swipe delivers a whole lot of colour), it is very creamy and moisturising, but it is also transferable, can tend to bleed and doesn’t have a very good staying power.
Pros of Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Sultry Sable:
- Beautiful and rich plum-purple colour (ideal for the colder months).
- Very creamy in texture and feels very moisturising on the lips.
- Highly pigmented.
- Has a lustrous finish.
- Has no shimmer and no frost; pure creamy finish (which is what I like).
- Fragrance free.
Cons of Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Sultry Sable:
Because of its creamy finish:
- This one is transferable.
- Tends to bleed.
- Doesn’t have a very good staying power.
- Won’t fade evenly.
My Verdict on Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Sultry Sable:
Whatever be the cons of this lipstick, there is nothing that a lip liner won’t fix. So, if you like the colour, texture and finish of this lipstick, then I think that this is a must-have, especially for the fall-winter season.
