SAREE & BLOUSES

If you see someone wearing a saree, do you first look at the saree, makeup, or jewels? I look at the blouses. I feel saree blouses play an important role in highlighting a person. I look at the fitting, cut, pattern, finish, etc., even before laying my eyes on the saree.

I love to look at the celebrities and their barely there blouses or should I say bikinis. My point is bikini should be worn in the beach though some of the blouses are good, we neither have the figure or courage to wear it. I can go as far as experimenting with sleeve design, going deep in the back and that is it. I love sleeveless blouses too but do not have the arms to carry it.

Even if one is wearing a simple saree or blouse, the fitting should be great and the cut classic. Example, Rani’s halter type and 3/4th sleeve blouses are to die for.

Even if one is wearing a designer saree, what good if the blouse is loose or highly cut or barely there.

There are lots of designs available, front and back knots, off the shoulder, boat neck, halter neck, strings, bejewelled back, etc.

Since I wear sarees only during weddings and get to meet relatives and in laws, I tend to pattern my blouses rather than going for designer ones.

Here are some of my patterned blouses along with the saree so that you
can get an idea:

1. For this saree, I bought a separate brocade blouse because the blouse was too plain and got stringed back with tassels.

2. Half net and half georgette saree. I bought this because I wanted to have a blingy saree in my wardrobe. Otherwise, I like classic saree with subtle designs. Here contrast color is used to give edging along the neck.

3. My favourite, pure georgette saree, came with a plain blouse. I was contemplating whether I should get some work done or have strings at the back but decided instead to get it stitched just with zari piping alone. This gives a classic, no fuss look.

4. Benares saree, the most one can do is use the border for the sleeves. Here half the border is used in the sleeves and the remaining in the neck along with matching stones with gold zari piping.

        1. The cream sari…me send you…no big generosity..these aren’t terribly expensive at all. If you don’t mind compromising on the cotton thread count quality you could pick these up for around 1000 (and I am sure I have quoted the price on the exorbitant side).

          1. Actually that was a sincere serious genuine blah blah offer….but thanks Cali for giving me ideas

  9. Sarita – lovely saris, but I loved the blouses more….they are stitched so well. I have the dumbest blouses ever…I don’t even ask for complicated designs..just a simple blouse which fits properly and they make it like I asked for pockets in unmentionable places to store goodness what there!!!!

    1. Lots of comments for the first saree. It is the least favourite among all the sarees. Now, I guess i vl start liking it…hehe

  10. Beautiful collection sarita…..Just da post dat i wanted right now…wat wid all da weddings cumin up……Luvd ur 1st saree and Rani’s cotton saree….

Rads can u tell me wer i can find it in mumbai….went to nalli last week n was searching for sumthng on this line but didnt get any…..

    Pls let me know….

    1. Tx Farha…I am not sure whether u r looking for cotton saree or the first saree. The brocade blouse material is from Nalli….

  11. That saree doesn’t look like its for Rs1500, it look very subtle & the contrast blouse compliments it! I actually thought u attached a big lace border to the saree!

    1. Not sure where in bombay..since u r saying u cannot get in Nalli, i am doubtful you can get elsewhere. What Rani is wearing is the most simplest one. U can buy only in kerala. I have one from Kerala too. Did u try online shopping…i have seen some sites selling it

  12. Oh…thnx eneways!!!!! Nope havent tried online shopping :-(( :-(( …..i prefer in seeing and trying b4 buyin enethn….so online shoppin is a no for me…..after gettn addicted to IMBB and reading sum gr8 reviews i am tempted to buy sum stuff online πŸ˜› πŸ˜› ….

    1. Farha,

I have been an online seller for three years now on totalgadha.com. you have to remember that online sellers are more than willing to be better than offline sellers because they do not want anything negative to be spread about them as online bad word of mouth spreads phenomenally fast. Offline sellers don’t give a shit. They know you cannot affect their sales for more than even 10 people. Online sellers bend twice over, ALL the time.

And no, for everyone else who is reading, your credit card/ bank account details are more than secure in online transaction as long as your as own computer is secure. There can be malware/ key loggers on your own computer which can find information on all the key strokes that you type. Please have a good antivirus and anti malware on your computer and you are secure.

Also NEVER click on any link that you get in your email. If you get an email from your bank or credit card company and it asks you click on a link, DON’T. Just find the website of your bank/ company through google and reach that link.

In short, never blame the online transaction for leakage of your credit card/ online details. It is always YOU. πŸ™‚

  13. the second saree. They are all really pretty but the second one is rite up my alley
I don’t wear sarees yet but I always get my Mom to buy the ones I like so I can steal them later πŸ˜› πŸ˜‰ :snicker: O:-) :rotfl:

  14. Cali…Most of us had problems in depositing the amount πŸ™ :-(( :-(( …i cancelled the order and i thnk monika made the payment but ki didnt receive it….she even put a mail to everyone in the sale….i was so excited but it did not turn up as i had expected :-(( :-((

  15. Dear Radsu…..instead of blaming the tailor for getting your blouse every time….maybe you should let him/her measure your bust size every time :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly: the scales always change na…….isliye :cute: :shy: :cute: :shy: :cute: :shy: :cute: :shy: :cute: :cute:

    1. 😐 😐 😐 😐 errr ya they do… 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 and I always insist that the tailor takes the measurement….cos I stitch maybe once in 5 yrs so..but you know this tailor I went to last time in Kerala….he won’t take measurements..you have to give him a blouse for measurement….like I am going to eat him up or something… :reallyangry: :reallyangry: :reallyangry: and I don’t have a blouse thats why I go to stitch na…how will I give him one for measurement!!!!

  16. he he he ………….apparently its much more easier to copy from an already stitched blouse it seems……if you give them measurements….extra time it seems…………….they can save a lot of time that way it seems…………

      1. What do you do then…like for the first blouse??? I don’t have any blouse right now to give for measurement..I could tell you add another 4 inches another 10 inches here..but that just doesnt work naaa…I want someone to stitch a blouse properly for me :-(( :-(( :-(( :-(( :-(( :-(( I bought such a beautiful sari from Nallis but no blouse to wear it with..I just take it out every once in a while and stare at it and put it back :-(( :-(( :-((

        1. Oh my!! I love Nallis. You have nallis in your bangalore gaon also.. :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

I go with mu mom, make 100 faces and give my measurement.. 😐 😐 😐 😐

        1. Eh? I don’t have any problem with anybody taking measurements…the tailor I go to has problems taking measurements..am looking for another tailor who stitches properly…wish I could find some boutique to stitch the way you have got them stitched πŸ™‚

            1. wow…lovely. Here in Chennai v have to beg or threaten them to give blouses on time. Here there are boutiques run by ladies, so they take measurement..so no problem.

  17. The first blouse is preeeeetttty !
I really like the long elbow length sleeved blouses., like Rani Mukherjees first pic. They are kinda in vogue right now. Vidya balan wore them in Paa, i loved her look and her clothes in Paa.

  18. Loved the blouses………i experiment a lot with my blouses & like u , try to put in some design elements to make them interesting. Recently I also made a Corset blouse…yet to waer it though!!!

  19. awwww. the blue saree ( not rani mokherjee’s) in the third pic is v b’ful. and i love the white kerala saree of rani mukherjee.

  20. Essskwoooooozzzzz meeeeeeeeeeeeeee BUMTOAD…we have 2-3 Nallis here…and that’s in Bangalore…I bought my sari from Coimbatore…me had these old memories of going shopping there with my grandparents ages back so went there and got this one…. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

  21. wow…nice post and what timing for me..few days back i bought this gorgeous red italian crepe saree and i spent the entire day yesterday thinking about how to make the blouse…your post has given me some more ideas..thanks πŸ™‚

  22. Sanjeevji…thnx for the info :-)) ….actually my hubby is an avid online shopper…he is addicted to ebay n has no complaints at all….seems i m not so lucky :-(( …i had asked him to order EOS lip balm for me…the payment has been done but the shipper did not ship it…he says he paid thru paisapal or sumthn like dat so he will get the money back…..i m not against online shopping…… i m a complete shopoholic and njoy the thrill of tryin ten thngs n buyin stuff……….its jst my mindset…guess once i hav a successful transaction myself i will turn into an online shopaholic :silly:
