Schwarzkopf Heidi’s Heat Styles Heat Protection Spray Review

Now for those of you who have poker straight hair that looks like a glossy mane out of a television advertisement, we can never be friends. For all the rest of us, lets gather together in a sports style huddle and on three, cheer- “Go Heat Protection Spray!”.

Come on now, you know you need heat protection spray to avoid those split ends and prevent your hair from drying out. For those of you who think oh I don’t really use a straightner or hair curler that much and that you can do without it, who are you kidding behna? That used to be me too FYI, there with you in that category but it wasn’t till I got grilled by a regular hair stylist that I realised even if you straighten your hair just that once, you need a heat protection spray.

This Schwarzkopf heat protection spray is a brilliant drugstore product and comes from Schwarzkopf’s new line called ‘Heidi’s Heat Styles’ launched just last year in a collaboration with Schwarzkopf and Heidi Klum. Now if her stunning blonde mane is anything to go by, you know this is for you! This product is also included in their ‘Extra Care’ Hair Styling line. The product comes in a slender long grey and pink bottle (aren’t I such a sucker for packaging, haha!) with a trigger spray pink top. To prevent the trigger accidentally spraying this in your bags or luggage a little twisty dial thing under the pump trigger twists to an open or close position, as indicated by aligning the spikes on it with the open arrow. This is very handy for travel because it doesn’t leak at all!

NZD 7.29 for 250 ml at Countdown, but I found that this is cheaper at Pack N Save and it is an Australian product so it is cheaper in Australia!

My experience with the Schwarzkopf Heidi’s Heat Styles Heat Protection Spray:

I’m excited for when this hits India because it is such good value for money. There is absolutely no smell to this product, nothing even mildly chemically or floral. When I spray it on my hand I do notice an extremely faint and very diluted rubbing alcohol smell which feels quite cooling on my skin as it evaporates. Evaporating time from my skin was about a minute and a half, and it is much less from my hair. Even when I spray it on the back of my hand and it dries out there’s no stickiness or dryness on my hand, and it has proved to leave none on my hair either.

The liquid itself was very light when I swatched it in store and the lighter than water feel is what made me buy it. The trigger dispenses a fine even mist of product and I’ve never had any problems with the nozzle getting blocked. You can use this on wet or dry hair, but if you are using this on wet hair, remember to only blow dry. If you are using this one dry hair you must wait to let this dry completely before using a straightner or curling rod. I’ve found the best way to apply this is to flip my hair in front of my head and do 2 sprays to cover all that area, use one spray on crown parted hair and another 2 sprays (left and right side) when I finally flip my hair back. This is enough for my waist length thin hair and all of it dries in less than a minute. NEVER use anything hot on your hair before this dries out (other than during blow drying) because that sizzling noise you are hearing is your hair crying out in sheer pain!

What I like about this product is that it provides protection for styling appliances that heat up to 220 degrees and you shouldn’t be using something that gets hotter than that anyway. Also I like that this is universal ‘heat protection spray’ so regardless of whether I’m curling, straightening or blow drying, this will protect my hair all around. Now what I have noticed is that my hair (which is usually a frizz bomb) is definitely is glossier, shinier and smoother when I use this before straightening my hair. When I curled my hair it was again shinier, and I also noticed that this contributed towards a longer hold time of my curls as opposed to curling them without heat protection spray. I have never felt during its use like I have product in my hair or it is weighing my hair down or anything. It’s never left any sticky residue in my hair. Heidi’s Heat Styles also has a fantastic mousse that this pairs really well with. All in all, this makes my hair soft and looking like it’s just been treated at the salon.

Would I repurchase or recommend the Schwarzkopf Heidi’s Heat Styles Heat Protection Spray?

I recommend you jump on the next flight to Australia or New Zealand (because travelling there should be on everyone’s bucket list) and buy yourself one and bring me back one! Hehe! No in all seriousness, I’ve tried the previous Schwarzkopf heat protection spray that was very gunky, so I prefer this one a lot more, try it if you get the chance!
