The Body Shop 20 Poppy Pink Lip and Cheek Velvet Stick Review

Hi everyone,

The previous shades that I had picked up from the “Lip and Cheek Velvet Stick” range by The Body Shop impressed me, so I got two more shades (Poppy N*de and Poppy Pink).  Here are my thoughts on the shade “Poppy Pink.”

My Experience with The Body Shop 20 Poppy Pink Lip and Cheek Velvet Stick:

The packaging of this velvet stick is simple with a twist-up mechanism. The base is color coded and is of the same color as that of the product. The cap does not shut with a click, but is tight enough and would not open up in your makeup pouch. There is no sharpener provided; after the tip gets blunt, it is slightly difficult to draw the edges.

The texture is very smooth and glides on the lips like a dream.  Exfoliating the lips prior to application is necessary as the texture of this product is not forgiving, and dry patches will show up, if any. The pigmentation is very poor and even multiple swipes do not help to build up the shade. It remains sheer, to such an extent, that my pigmented lips show through it. Also, multiple swipes make the color patchy and it settles into the fine lines, which looks quite gross.

The shade “Poppy Pink” is not impressive as it is a milky pink color and upon application on the lips and cheeks, it’s nowhere close to the shade that you see on the bullet. It makes me look tanned and highlights the imperfections on my face. Moreover, the low pigmentation adds to the woes; otherwise it could have impressed people with fair skin tones. If you have not yet bought it, good for you; you are not missing out on anything. This velvet stick you can easily skip, especially with that high price tag.

This sheer color stays on for 1-2 hours maximum after which it disappears. The stick when used as blush stays on the cheeks for 2-3 hours depending on the base makeup. With foundation beneath, the staying power improves to 4 hours. Since it is a 2-in-1 product, I find the concept to be suitable for busy office-going women and for girls going on short trips. This shade does not really show up on the skin, especially on the lips, so if you like the concept, go for the bolder shades.
