I am back with another review and this is about a product that I have serious mixed feelings for. I’m going to write about the Yves Saint Laurent Dessin Du Regard Waterproof Eye Pencil in the shade “Black Ink.” That name is seriously a mouthful. YSL is my favorite premium makeup brands, because of the quality of their products. Whatever they do, they do so with commitment and élan. This eye pencil speaks for them – it stands up to the brand. My eyes have a problem with kajal – I don’t know why. It just pushes any product out of the waterline and I always end up resembling a zombie or a panda. I have tried MAC, L’Oreal, Maybelline, Chambor, Revlon, Lakme and I can’t remember what else. Once when I went to buy some YSL lipsticks, the SA suggested that I get the Yves Saint Laurent Dessin Du Regard Waterproof Eye Pencil for my eyes, because the one I was wearing was clearly smudging. Needless to say, my pockets felt the burn and my heart felt content. Here’s my review after 6 long months!
1950 INR/ 30 USD for 0.04 oz.
This eyeliner offers the look of a liquid with the ease of a pencil. Its formula offers intense, shimmering color in nearly any circumstance for up to 16 hours of beautiful wear.
My Experience with YSL Dessin Du Regard Black Ink Waterproof Eye Pencil:
This is the only waterline eye pencil that my eyes do not reject – that is a LOT to say for my eyes. It stays put, it’s waterproof, smudge proof (for me) and the blackest of black. What I love about this eye pencil is that it goes on so easily. I don’t have to run it over my waterline multiple times to get that black color. I use one swipe and that’s enough for me – it’s that dark. It feels somewhat creamy on application and does not feel heavy on my eyes. It did not cause any burning or water my eyes, which most pencils do for me.
It does not budge all day. I have never wore it for 16 hours straight, but it lasted me 12 hours (the longest I have worn eye pencil) without any qualms. It seriously is long lasting. When you want to remove this, make up remover is a must. It does not come off easily even after using makeup remover. You have to use at least 4 Q-tips to get all of it off completely.
As far as storage goes, I left it open without the lid for 10 hours once and it did not dry up. It worked just the same and the texture was creamy as ever.
The eye pencil by itself looks very elegant. The sleek black pencil with the gold lid looks very classy to me. This pencil comes with a sharpener and I know why they decided to do that. This pencil disappears way too fast. I have to sharpen it every 10 days, sometimes even sooner if I use it as eyeliner. I feel like I’m using a little product, but I use it for 4 days straight and it’s already quite blunt. If I don’t sharpen it after 8-10 days, it is completely blunt and applying it will hurt my eyes. Once the pencil gets really small, it becomes hard to use it.
This is a serious problem because the price is so steep and it doesn’t last you even for moderate amount of time. I have bought 2 pencils over the last six months and I don’t even use it everyday.
My mom wore this when she ran out of her eye pencil, she was wearing contacts, and she said it make her eyes feel foggy, so I guess that’s another issue with this pencil. Also, this does not come on thin like most eyeliners (even after it is freshly sharpened). If you like thick eyeliner, this is good.
All in all, this works for my eyes, but this isn’t the best for everybody.
Pros of YSL Dessin Du Regard Black Ink Waterproof Eye Pencil:
- Sleek and classy packaging.
- Blackest of black color on one swipe.
- Waterproof and smudge proof.
- Does not cause a bad reaction to your eyes.
- Stays unfazed for up to 16 hours.
- Comes with a sharpener.
- Creamy texture – easy to apply.
- Does not dry up on improper storage.
Cons of YSL Dessin Du Regard Black Ink Waterproof Eye Pencil:
- Need a lot of makeup remover to take it off – does not come off easily.
- Does not last very long – maybe 2 months if I use it everyday (lesser, if I use it as an eyeliner).
- The creamy texture may make your eyes foggy if you have contacts.
- The price is too high for the amount of time that it lasts.
I rate this product a 3.5/5. Though this is the only kajal that works for my eyes, there are much better options in the market for everyone else. I wouldn’t recommend this to a friend!
