BECCA Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Review

After my “orange lip color” phase, I now seem to be in a highlighter phase. I am obsessed with them and wanna try out all that is out there. I earlier reviewed the Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in shade Candlelight, MAC Cream Color Base in Shell, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette and Armani Fluid Sheer in shade #4. Today, I bring to you another highlighter from the house of Becca, the brand which has made a lot of waves in the field of highlighting from their liquid highlighter (will be reviewing it shortly) to their pressed highlighters to their blush with highlighter (will review that too soon).  So, let’s get on with it and find out if Becca’s products are worth the rave they seem to have generated.

Product Details:

A sequel to the cult favorite liquid Shimmering Skin Perfector™, this creamy powder luminizer is like crushed gemstones in a compact.  Refined luminosity in any light. This formula features ultra-fine luminescent pearls that absorb, reflect and refract light so your natural glow is never lost. Unlike the traditional pressed powder method, which simply mixes and compresses dry ingredients, this unique process blends pigments with proprietary liquid binders, resulting in unparalleled, creamy application with balanced color dispersion.  This formula features multi-toned, ultra-fine pigment pearls that adjust to skin’s natural undertones. Formulated without parabens. Sweep across the face or apply to targeted areas including cheekbones, brow bones and bridge of the nose.

I reviewed the Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder Candlelight earlier, which was $44 for 3.1 gm of product.

Packaging:

The product comes in a rubberised compact aka NARS – with Becca embossed on a metal part on top. It has a large mirror but no brush, which is okay since I anyway do not use the brush that comes housed in compacts. Honestly, the packaging is functional and seems sturdy, but it definitely doesn’t spell luxury to me. For 38$, I want a little pomp and show too! 😛

My Experience with BECCA Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed:

After having shared 4 highlighters with you – powder, cream and liquid, I still continue to buy more highlighters. Why? Because I continue to look for “THE ONE” perfect one for me. I know it’s a rage nowadays to seek products – including highlighters and illuminators which would give you “radiant looking skin,” “lit-from-within” glow.  But honestly, I wanted a highlighter which would show up as a more obvious highlight! And what’s wrong with that! I was sick of the subtle, the glow, the barely-there sheen!! I like my highlighter to not look like disco ball but still to show up!! Enter Becca!

Becca has a wide range of liquid illuminators, I believe made popular by Lisa Eldridge. They recently launched the pressed version of these highlighters in various shades. I had shortlisted “Opal” as my pick – it’s a peachy medium shade. However, I decided to go for Opal in liquid and Moonstone (the lightest shade in the range) in Pressed.

Moonstone – which happens to be the lightest shade of the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed is described as “pale gold.” It’s a shimmering golden champagne shade with a frosted finish. On my medium toned skin (for reference – I am NC30/35 in MAC; 03 in Guerlain and 04 in Bobbi Brown), it shows up as an obvious sheen, but does not look unnatural.

The texture is ah-so-smooth and finely milled! It blends like a dream. It is very easy to pick up on the brush and to deposit onto the skin. Since the shade is the lightest one, you need to ensure that you use a fluffy brush or a fan brush for application because it’s relatively easy to go overboard with this product. Applied heavily, it could end up accentuating pores. However, applied lightly, it gives the most delightful sheen. Refer my pics, I have applied it over the cheekbones, the brow bone, the inner corner of my eye and the bridge of my nose. I think the sheen can be picked up by the camera, so it is kind of obvious. To me, it looks absolutely lovely. I have used my new Sigma F35 brush for it (loving the brush too!!)

Another feather in the product’s cap is that the longevity is amazing, it stays put for 7-8 hours, which is a lot on my oily skin, but do remember that it is winters and such a joy to apply makeup because for a change, it is not melting, while you are applying.

This colour would look perfect on fair skin tones and is obvious on my medium skin tone. However, if you want something which blends into the skin, I suggest you try another shade from the range – like Opal, Topaz, Champagne Gold or Rose Gold.

The product can be used subtly or in a more pronounced fashion. However, it is a bit on the obvious side and I love it like that. I have a plethora of highlighters and illuminators, I am loving this one the most! This has quickly become my absolute favourite. Would love to know your thoughts on whether you like the effect it has created on my face or have I just gone mad!!  So, does this mean I stop looking for more highlighters! Hell, no!!! While this is my HG highlighter right now, I am dying to get my hands on Opal!! 😉
