My Experience with KIKO #02 Sand Beam of Light Highlighter:

The highlighter comes in a small, round pan which has a see through lid to it. The pan is packaged into a cardboard carton. The pan is made up of soft, velvety plastic and is black in colour. The pan will definitely attract dirt and dust. The lid is very steady and hence, can be carried around for travels. The ingredients are mentioned at the back of the cardboard carton and the shade number is written at the top. The shade number is also mentioned at the bottom of the highlighter pan. Although the name is mentioned on the website, it is nowhere to be seen on the highlighter pot or the carton.

#02 Sand is a mild yellow, golden color highlighter. It has this silverish tint, similar to those foiled eyeshadows that are an ‘in’ thing in the market these days. One has to swirl the finger or the brush over the highlighter. The texture is very smooth; I would not say soft since these are baked highlighters and the basic highlighter bar is hard. Also, it has very minute shimmer particles that are not clearly visible, but finely milled into the formulation. Hence, it is not gritty or rough. Due to the shimmer particles being closely held, it gives a magnified effect to the sparkling of the highlighter. In no way is it chalky or dry! Blending is super easy.

Coming to the pigmentation! It is crazily pigmented. An absolute miniscule amount is required to get the desired effect. Due to its magnified sparkling effect and foiled eyeshadow kind of finishing, one can easily go overboard. Hence, be very careful! Start with applying very little as this one can easily be built up to higher tones. Also, just a suggestion; I was used to using fingers for eyeshadows, blush or even the highlighters, but this habit would create blunders in case of this highlighter. It is so prominent on your face that you must use a highlighter brush in order to get that sleek, highlighted cheekbones effect with the best possible blending.

Staying power is good – 5-6 hours after which only a thin layer of shine remains. It seems that you have applied only shimmer particles, as the base color of the highlighter fades away. There is no applicator provided with it. Also, it is not waterproof. I use it to highlight my cheekbones and just under my brow bone. Love the way it brightens up the face!

  1. That’s indeed one gorgeous highlighter. I also like the fact that its formulation is so good despite the price range.
