Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick Pink Blush

Hey Gals,

I am on a try-maximum-lip-shades craze now after seeing all the beautiful shades discovered daily in IMBB. The progress is not that great, considering that on my pigmented lips, most of the colors lose their look. So my search for the top ten in the list of “lipsticks that I love” is going on and on. I really admire some of my friends who buy just one Chanel or Dior lipstick that fits for all occasions and then ignore the tempting display in malls or sale online. One of my friends has been using just one shade of Chanel from the last 5 years! I don’t know how they manage it or how they can stop trying out all new shades, but sure, its easy on the pocket!!

So, the moral of the story is – please don’t judge me for buying this lipstick as by now, you must have understood that I am color-crazy. I know after seeing the swatch, many of you will be thinking – “Realllyyy???” All I can say is it looked good on the model on the Rimmel website.

You can find a detailed review of Lasting Finish lipsticks in shades Heather Shimmer and Airy Fairy here and here, so I will not go over again on ingredients, price and packaging.

My Experience with Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick – Pink Blush:

I got this product from a friend who was returning from UK and she happened to mention that she was planning to get this lipstick, which is supposedly a dupe of her favorite, MAC’s Viva Glam Gaga.  She was getting me a couple of other stuff, so when she asked if I wanted this, I thought “sure, why not!” I checked internet and found that this was being touted as a close dupe for MAC Gaga lipstick along with some shade from Revlon Colorburst. I had a sneaking suspicion that it would not go along with my tanned uneven complexion, but then there was some offer and she decided to gift me.

As soon as I opened the lipstick, I was sure it wouldn’t suit me and I was right. This is a very cute shade nevertheless, a bright Barbie or bubble-gummy pinkish pastel shade that should be strictly marked “only for people with very very very fair skin like Nicole Kidman.”  The color totally brought out everything that was wrong with my skin and complexion.

I tried deepening the color and I started looking like a circus clown. I thought I will experiment with various skin shades to test if this color would actually suit us Indians and tested it on some of my friends. Surprisingly, it looked good on a friend who is very wheatish skinned and on another friend who was superbly fair. The lesson that I learnt was to carry this lip shade, the skin tone would have to be either wheatish and darker or very fair. Those who have used Viva glam Gaga and know how to carry this shade, please do help!

Regarding the feel of the lipstick, this is creamier than Heather Shimmer with very slight shimmer particles and somewhat creamy matte finish. Again, people with sensitive noses might have a tough time with this lipstick as the scent is on the heavier side. As opposed to Heather Shimmer, the staying power is much better, around 4-5 hours without eating. It is a bit drying, so I applied this with lip balm underneath.

Pros of Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick – Pink Blush:

• Creamy, smooth, matte-ish finish.
• Decent staying power of around 4-5 hours.
• Price is on the cheaper side.
• If you’re a fan of MAC Gaga lipstick and searching for a dupe, this could be an option.

Cons of Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick – Pink Blush:

  • To be applied carefully to avoid looking like either a person with pale washed-out lips or like a circus clown.
  • Brings out all the defects in your face including uneven tones, yellowish teeth, etc., etc., so the next time you want to find flaws in your face, use this lipstick.
  • Oh, the smell!!!!
  • It’s a bit drying, but not too bad.
  • Availability of Rimmel in India is a con.
  • Poor packaging and no details on the cover.

Overall Rating:

3.5/5 (for the smell, drying out and bad packaging).  I don’t honestly think I can say the clashing shade as a con.

Will I Buy Again?

Sure, once I discover the secret to flawless fair luminous skin and start looking like Nicole Kidman.  I do however plan to try the other shades from this range, as these are cheap and nice lipsticks.  This is how the shade looks like on the model in the makeover option on the Rimmel London website.

definitely not my color either. its somewhere between pink and purple’ish pink..god knows how to say it but on me this color can look kinda ghostly..but gals while on the topic of lipsticks – which according to you is a long lasting lipstick within a 1000 bucks? MAC Twig/cosmos or more Colorbar/faces types?

devilgal November 16, 2011 at 4:29 pm

Aruna, ive never used MAC lippy.. So cannot say but i guess it would definitely be much more long lasting that Colorbar or Faces..
Colorbar lippy ive lasts for around 4-5 hours and almost the same wth Faces i guess… :specs:

hmm..i bought a bunch of Elle 18 lippies thinking ki kya farak padtha hai..i have to reapply after 2 hrs anyways so might as well buy a cheaper one ..but now i really want to pick a good long lasting color. i tried couple of techniques like appying foundation b4 using the lipstick, applying lipliner first and then the lipstick but nothing works..:(

(but thanks maybe I need to wear lighter shades so that it dosent give the obvious faded look)

i have one similar lipstick of this shade. not as pale bt similar.. forgetting the name right now. I sometimes pair it up with heavy smokey eyes and shades such as these give a different look. I mean it is definitely not a comfort zone color bt just for fun. ;)

the color on the model an dyour swatch look super different. no doubt you got confused. :( ( :hugleft:

try wearing a dark shade of lip liner underneath and then using it ?

Devi, I’m not light-skinned and can’t really carry off these kinds of shades either. But hmm, I dunno, maybe try topping it off with a darker gloss int he same color family? I haven’t tried that but just thought of it now. :) )

Ooops. Definitely not the color for Indian skintone :( (
You can try putting a darker gloss on top….like a plummy shade and see if it tones down the bright color. :)
