We cannot name a woman who does not love makeup! Or I should say, behind every beautiful girl there is a makeup kit! Well, even though we spend lots and lots of money on purchasing these makeup kits, they tend to expire soon. But sometimes they tend to get destroyed, ruined or loses its quality before the expiry date. To those girls who think makeup never dies, here is a slight surprise – makeup actually dies! So, here are few steps on how to keep cosmetics sanitised to keep them durable.
1. Keep a check
You should always keep a check on your makeup products and their expiry dates. Some of you might think that expired products can never do harm to skin, but you are absolutely wrong. Makeup products should not be used even after a single day of expiry date. You should take care specially in case of lipsticks. Due to extreme heat or bacterial reactions, they get damaged easily. If you feel your product is outdated, they deserve to be in your dustbin, and not in your vanity.
2. Notice the changes
Although we have asked you to trash makeup products once they are expired, there can be chances of products getting expired before the date. If you find any changes in the texture of your body lotion, it is the time to throw it away. You can similarly have a check on lipsticks and their texture. Generally, you can find white covering over the tip of lipsticks and kajal pencils, which is an indication that they are no more useful. Also throw away your perfumes if they start smelling funny.
3. Take care of makeup brushes
You should clean your makeup brushes once a week, in case you are using them every day. Even if you are not using them every day, you should wash them clean once in a month. You can simply use a dishwashing liquid to clean them or invest in a dedicated cleaner. Once they are dried, store them properly.
4. Storage
Storage is the most important thing you should consider while taking care of makeup. Makeup brushes should never be kept with other equipments. You can store them in an open glass with brush facing the top. Make sure your vanity does not attract heat from outside. All the makeup products should be kept at room temperature. You should also check the instructions that are mentioned on the product.
5. Wiping
If possible, you should keep wiping your products once a month. You can simply wipe them with a damp cloth or wipes. This will remove dust particles and will add a new life to the products. Remember, there is no harm in keeping makeup kits neat and clean.
6. Air drying
Alternatively you can air dry your makeup kits. This will help to remove the bad smell from the products and will also clean dust particles. You can remove the products from your kit and then keep them in sunlight for less than half an hour. This will help to kill the bacteria and other harmful substances over the kit.
7. Take care of your pencils
A real good sharpener will always help you to keep your pencils good and also alive. You should make it a point to sharpen all your lip and kajal pencils once a week. If the tip of the pencil feels really soft, keep the pencil in refrigerator for half an hour; this will prevent the product from breakage.
