The Body Shop Dewberry Bath and Shower Gel + Body Lotion Review

The Body Shop Dewberry Bath and Shower gel and Body Lotion review

The Dewberry range is one of the Anita’s favorites or Originals products of The Body Shop. It was originally launched in 1988 and now it has been re-launched. Dewberry (Rubus Caesius) is a berry that is closely related to blackberries, purple-black in color with small fruits and a sweet but slightly tart taste.

The Body Shop Dewberry Bath and Shower Gel

The Body Shop Dewberry Bath and Shower Gel

As you can see, this is a purple translucent liquid with a slight gel-like consistency. I love the fact that it contains aloe vera, which as we all know does a lot of good to the skin. According to the TBS USA website, their aloe products contain no preservatives, dyes, fragrances, alcohol or soap. But I can see fragrance, preservatives in the ingredient list above, so I’m not sure what they mean by this. It lathers very well, like all TBS shower gels and the fragrance is very fresh and uplifting, without being overly fruity. I think this is a fragrance which most people will like.

The Body Shop Dewberry Bath and Shower Gel
Here are swatches – shower gel above and lotion below. The shower gel comes on almost transparent.

I’m not a big fan of the TBS flip-top lid packaging these days, after one of these lids broke in my hand last time I was at the store. I can’t think of any alternatives though. I avoid flipping the lid open and just unscrew the cap to use it.

Pros:

  • Lathers very well
  • Not expensive, especially with the discount
  • Does not dry skin out
  • Pretty purple color πŸ™‚
  • Lovely mild fragrance
  • No preservatives, dyes, fragrances, alcohol or soap (but unsure of what this really means)
  • 100% post-consumer recycled packaging

Cons:

  • Packaging not very sturdy
  • Fragrance does not linger much after the shower

I love this shower gel and would definitely buy it again. Worth every penny.

My rating: :-* :-*:-*:-*

Dewberry Body Lotion

Price: Rs 495 for 100 ml, I got it at 15% discount

Key ingredients: Sweet almond oil, Glycerin and Shea butter

Full ingredient list: Aqua (Solvent/Diluent), Glycerin (Humectant), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Emollient), Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil (Emollient), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil (Emollient), Dimethicone (Skin Conditioning Agent), Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate (Emollient/Skin Conditioner), PEG-20 Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate (Emulsifier), Parfum (Fragrance), Benzyl Alcohol (Preservative), Butyrospermum Parkii (Skin-Conditioning Agent/Emollient), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer (Stabiliser/ Viscosity Modifier), Linalool (Fragrance Ingredient), Amyl Cinnamal (Fragrance Ingredient), Geraniol (Fragrance Ingredient), Disodium EDTA (Chelating Agent), Limonene (Fragrance Ingredient), Citronellol (Fragrance Ingredient), Sodium Hydroxide (pH Adjuster), Rubus Caesius Fruit Extract (Natural Additive), Benzyl Salicylate (Fragrance Ingredient), Hexyl Cinnamal (Fragrance Ingredient), Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Fragrance Ingredient), Eugenol (Fragrance Ingredient), Citral (Fragrance Ingredient), Tocopherol (Antioxidant).

The Body Shop Dewberry Body Lotion

This is a slightly runny white liquid lotion, similar to the consistency of the TBS Cocoa Butter hand and body lotion. It has the same fragrance as the shower gel, but much stronger and lingers for a while after the shower.

Surprisingly, even though it has sweet almond oil, glycerin and shea butter in it, it is not very moisturizing. I have normal skin and can skip lotion after my bath and not feel dry and this was enough for me, but my skin didn’t feel super-smooth like it does when I use the cocoa butter lotion or any of the TBS puree lotions. My Mom has dry skin and this did not work at all for her, she called it white colored water. You need quite a bit of it and it does not absorb easily like the puree lotions do.

This has a flip-top lid too, and I really prefer the packaging of the puree lotions (the lockable pump dispensers). I wish they used that for all their products.

Pros ofΒ  the Body Shop Dewberry Body Lotion :

  • Smells exactly like the shower gel, but lingers for 2-3 hours
  • Good for humid conditions and people with normal skin

Cons of The Body Shop Dewberry Body Lotion:

  • Not very moisturizing, will not be enough for dry skin
  • Takes time to get absorbed
  • Expensive for the consistency, need to use more than the TBS puree lotions
  • Don’t like the packaging

As a standalone product, I would not purchase this again, especially not for winter. I wish they came out with a body butter in the same fragrance. I would definitely buy that.

My rating:
:-* :-*:-*

However, I like the fragrance of these two products so much that I don’t mind using the lotion just to intensify the fragrance of the shower gel. So that’s like paying 800-odd bucks for a shower gel πŸ˜› I would use this combo during the rains though.
