So, today’s review is on Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipstick in in the shade “Scrooge.” I have reviewed the shades “Lumiere2” and “StingRaye” for you earlier, both of which were somewhat neutral shades. This one is a bright one – let’s see how this one performed.

My Experience with Colourpop Scrooge Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick:
Packaging: The product comes in a lip gloss kind of packaging, like most liquid lipsticks do. The difference between this and other liquid lipsticks in the market is that the packaging has been kept simple and bare minimum. There is just the shade name on the bottom and the brand name on the side of the tube. It comes packaged in the standard Colourpop white outer box. In short, the packaging is simple and efficient.
The applicator is a doe-foot applicator – refer to the pics. Since the length of the tube and hence the applicator is not too long, it makes for easy and precise application.
Color: The shade “Scrooge”, is described as a “rich rosy pink,” which is somewhat accurate. It’s a rosy raspberry pink, something which instantly brightens up the face but isn’t too neonish or in your face. While I was selecting the shades to buy, I was initially keen on getting really bright shades, like Ouji, Highball, or something, but I’m glad I picked this one instead because I find myself reaching for this often. It’s a more fuss-free pink, but still very becoming. The shade would work across a variety of skin tones, with ease.
Texture: Having tried so many shades from Colourpop, I feel the formula is all over the place, it literally varies from shade to shade. Scrooge is from the newer range of shades. However, the formula of this one is not consistent with Lumiere 2 or StingRaye. This formula is very thin and dries down completely to a total matte finish. There is no stickiness to this unlike the other two shades mentioned by me. However, it isn’t as drying as the earlier released shades like Bumble, Tulle, either. The formula is fairly comfortable for the first 4-5 hours, post which it does get drying. It doesn’t bleed or feather. The formula is different also in the context that it does not look drying on the lips. It sits well and isn’t flat matte like some liquid lipsticks (talking about you Stila) can be.
Pigmentation: Pigmentation is extremely extremely good!!! It’s one of the most pigmented shades where a little does go a long way. If you use a bit too much product, there are chances of transference – of the excess product. However, if you stick to using a very thin layer, you still get “bam” pigmentation, but with quicker dry time and no transference.
Staying Power: With this shade, since the pigmentation is so amazing, you really need to apply a thin layer. With a thin layer, it stays put and lasts longer. You get about 8 hours of wear. However, as mentioned earlier, it will start to feel dry around the 4-5 hour mark. As is typical of pretty much all liquid lip colours, this too breaks down with oily food. The first portion to disappear is the inner portion of the bottom lip. You can easily do a touch up – it will not look patchy. You do not need to remove the entire lipstick and reapply.

- Not does make your lips look prunish.
- Does not cling to the dry patches on my lips.

Cons of Colourpop Scrooge Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipstick:
- Can be a bit drying over time.

A 4.5/5 product.
I think this one too is a great pick from Colourpop and pretty unbeatable at that price point. However, do note that while it is a cheaper option – compared to other brands like Kat Von D, Stila, MAC, etc – it contains much lesser product too. For example, it has half the product that a Kat Von D liquid lipstick does. Honestly, to me it seems like a good thing, you can get to try way more shades and maybe finish them up. And if you really like some shade, nothing stops you from re-purchasing. And every time you repurchase, you get a clean, fresh, uncontaminated tube. Sounds like a win! I don’t know what’s with this shade, but I think it actually makes my lips look fuller. In the pics, it seems to have a sheen, that is because its right after application. The lipstick will dry down fully in a minute.
