Most good commercials start with a familiar looking scene; a scene which an audience associates with a familiar situation in life. And then, near the end, a sudden twist is introduced that changes the interpretation completely. Introduce a tinge of raunchiness or bawdiness and the ads are complete. Although youtube is full of funny commercials, there are not many commercials on makeup and beauty. However, I still found some which looked pretty interesting and funny to me.
This first one operates on the lines that I talked about. Have a look:
Our second piece might be a little gross but I believe that is what the company intended. The slogan at the end is in german; it means something like: equally natural, but more practically boxed.
The third entry seems to be a famous ad because it was spread all over the internet. It is interesting to note that this ad is coming from a cosmetics company. But anyhow, a good ad all the same.
Well, this fourth ad really made me smile. It says nothing but it’s funny. It’s really made for men (no gender comments please!) 🙂

Ah, now I recognized the italian man video – knew this before already, it was very popular here in Europe and my italian friends love it as much as I do 😆
The third video reminds me a little bit on the contra-ana campaign with the french model Isabelle Caro in 2007 – she died this November 🙁 I appreciate commercials like this, since all the high-end magazine stuff is nothing but fake and the whole western fashion industry is not in the hands of people who like women. Seriously. I wrote several articles on that topic for german blogs and there will be another one from me on a special international platform in spring. We should think over if style, products etc. serve us people or not. If´they don´t – you can leave it without regret 🙂
