Himalaya Damage Repair Protein Shampoo
By Preethi Jambunathan
Hello lovely ladies.
Today I am going to review the Himalaya Damage Repair Protein Shampoo. I have thin, wavy and frizzy hair which tends to get dry all the time. I was earlier using the Dove Intensive Damage Repair Treatment shampoo which was working fine for me. But I always prefer products that are SLS, SLES and paraben free. Hence I bought this shampoo which is free of these chemicals.
What Himalaya Claims :
Repairs hair and protects from damage.
Himalaya Damage repair protein shampoo is enriched with natural proteins that provide necessary nourishment to hair. Unlike, harsh chemical shampoos, our shampoos are fortified with herbal ingredients that help control split ends, dry and frizzy hair, and protects hair damaged from blow drying, brushing and chemical treatment.
Key Ingredients:
Beach Almond fruit extract is rich with tannins which are reported to possess antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. The fruit of Beach Almond intensely conditions hair and helps prevent hair damage.
Chickpea seed extract is a rich source of protein. It is an effective hair conditioner which provides daily nourishment to hair, keeping it soft, smooth and healthy.
Directions For Use: Massage gently into wet hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary. Safe to use on artificially coloured or permed hair.
Price and Quantity: Rs. 70 for 100 ml.
Shelf Life: 3 years.
My Experience With Himalaya Damage Repair Protein Shampoo:
I have never colored or used any hot tool in my hair, though the frizz is irritating. I love my waves, further if I use any hot tool all the volume in my hair is lost. My hair is naturally dry, I never want to torture it further by using chemicals, hence the search for chemical free shampoos.
The product comes in a typical Himalaya white bottle.
It is a white, pearly liquid which smells like any other shampoo. I expected a lot from this brand and product. The fragrance is mild and pleasant. The consistency is between thick and runny. It does not lather much because of the absence of SLS. A lot of product is required per wash as I always oil my hair before shampooing. It effectively removed all the oil after I used the product twice. After shampoo, I dint use conditioner for the first time as the product claims that it has improved conditioning. My hair and scalp were so dry that it started itching. Then from the next time, I started using with Khadi Shikkakai And Honey Conditioner, it felt marginally better. But I don’t think it’s a good product for dry and damaged product as it claims as it further dries my hair.
Pros of Himalaya Damage Repair Protein Shampoo:
- The fragrance is pleasant.
- SLS, SLES and paraben free.
- Inexpensive and easily available across India.
- Herbal ingredients.
- Sleek bottle, can be easily carried without any worry of spillage.
Cons of Himalaya Damage Repair Protein Shampoo:
- It makes hair dry and rough though it is for dry and damaged hair.
- It gave me an itchy scalp.
- A lot of shampoo is required for every rinse.
- Can never be used without conditioner.
- No conditioning effect
- Does not do anything to control my frizz.
IMBB Rating: 2/5.

Welcome to IMBB Preethi 🙂 You have reviewed the product nicely 🙂
Never been fond of their haircare products though I do like their facial skin care range. Well reviewed Preethi 🙂
Somehow Himalaya products have never worked for me.. 🙁 Nice review Preethi
TBS rainforest is really good. I have used himalaya for a year , and it stripped all the natural oils of my hair , luckily , my hair recovered fast with deep conditioning treatments. You can also try The nature`s Co`s barley shampoo.
Barley /oatmeal. 😛
I tried their daily care one..it even made my hair dry and rough
