Vee B. asks:

Hello there,

I need advice on skin care. I have exams in May end and it’s in the afternoon time. So, I will have to travel on my two wheeler around 1 o’clock. Heat is unbearable at that time (actually killing). So, can you guys help me with regards to what care I should take? And also, please suggest some good sunblocks rather than sunscreens as I have read they are more effective.

  1. Hi Vee, best of luck for your exams! While going out in the afternoons, especially while riding a bike (I do this), cover your entire face with a scarf or stole. Use a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes. Wear gloves which would cover the entire length of your hand. Use medicated sun blocks available in pharmacies rather than the cosmetic ones. I can suggest Sun ban 50, it’s greasy and leaves a whitish cast, but it protects from tan. Wear cotton stuff and keep yourself hydrated.

    1. Jomol has said it all. I think you can try neutrogena dry touch spf 70 sunblock. it is quite effective in preventing suntan and burns. It is bit costly though available on discounts online almost always. *happydance*
other option is lotus herbals sunblock spf 70 [cheaper than neutrogena] *happy dance*
Also, use an after sun facewash like lotus safe sun face wash gel [to be used after sun exposure] and team it up along with lotus anti tan face scrub and anti tan facepack.
Dont forget to use a good moisturizer afterwards. *preen*

  2. I agree with what Jomol has suggested *jai ho* , I use a dermatologist recommended sunscreen lotion, that too leaves a white cast *headbang* . But, I figured out a weird trick, I generally mix my sunscreen with little aloe vera gel and lo!!! *happydance* , the cream+gel easily blends in, like any other face cream. *hifive*

Adding to what already said, its important not to skip moisturizer, dry skin can be easily tanned or sun-burnt *cry* . I can vouch for this with the harsh kerala summer experience *haan ji* . I too, drive a two wheeler, I also ensure that, after I reach office, I cleanse my face thoroughly and apply the sunscreen+gel combination again
