Indian Bridal Face Makeup : Ask IMBB

Ask IMBB Gang

Mahima Asks :

I am getting married in June this year and am trying to decide the makeup needed to include in my trousseau. The recent post on IMBB for Suma was helpful in giving pointers. I am studying in the US and can go to India only for 15 days, so I have only 6 days before the wedding. I am also getting married in a relatively smaller city ( no lakme salons!) and have no time for trials in the other salons. I may try one or two but I am preparing myself for the possibility that I have to do my own makeup. I am confident in eye makeup but need good advice on face makeup. I am a dusky complexioned girl with acne prone skin. I am planning to go to MAC outlet here and pick up MAC prep and primer, foundation (Mac studio tech?), concealer (mac studio finish),powder/ compact (need help in this) and MAC fix and spray. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with clear set of instructions on the steps for making up my face! I see on online tutorials people use 2-3 different powders! Should I go shimmer powder as well as matte powder? How about blush/ bronzer- shimmer or matte? I am going to start practicing my looks in case I am unable to get a good MUA in my city! Please help!

  3. Hey Mahima!! Congratulations on your big day!!

First and foremost, if you do not have a professional makeup artist around you, the next best thing is to do it on your own.

As your skin is acne-prone i am assuming it’s oily. So here’s how you should use the following MAC products.

    1. Cleanse tone and moisturise your face.
    2. Rub an icecube over your face to close the pores.
    3. Apply a MAC Prep+Prime Skin
    4. Apply MAC Studio Fix Foundation.
As you are in US you can also try out Smashbox Photofinish Foundation and Primer. These are specially created for photography.
    5. Depending on the darkness of the under eye circle, you can opt for a concealer. MAC Studio finish or Select coverup are both great.

You can finish by setting the makeup with MAC Prep +Prime Transparent Finishing powder. This one powder will blot oil as well as set makeup. And as you are getting FIX+ spary you won’t have to worry about cakiness.

After you get these products, try out your wedding look at least 3-4 times. Practice will make you perfect. Best of luck.

Also!!! Get a flat top buffer brush like Sigma F80, a good brush will make a MAJOR difference. :)) :)) :)) :))

  4. Hiii mahima… :)) :)) just some points which may help you in choosing your products. šŸ˜€

    1) If you skin is super oily then invest in a silicone based face primer.it will help control the oil.

    2) Try to Buy a cream foundation which gives light-medium coverage.because creams look natural and photograph well.if you have spots only in one area apply the foundation very lightly just to even out the spotless areas and then you can cover the spots individually with a concealer.this way you can avoid heavy caky unnatural look.you need not worry about cream making ur face oily as you are using primer underneath and a powder on top.also make sure your foundation does not have SPF in it.SPF is not flash friendly and it gives white cast to your face in photographs.

    3) First use a a peachy colour corrector underneath the eyes and to counter act the darkness and then use concealer that matches your skintone to cover dark circles completely.

    4) Try to avoid powders with obvious shimmers in it..because the shimmer specks look uneven and scattered in flash photographs.u can use a powder that gives sheen on your cheek bones and T-zone.Example: NARS “Albatross” highlighter which is a universally flattering golden colour. or you can use cream colour bases such as “Hush” and “improper copper” from MAC..as they are creams use them after foundation and before powder.

    5) Use a non-shimmery cream blush and top it lightly with a matte powder blush for that natural glow.avoid shimmery blushes because they will give round shiny circles on your cheeks and wash out the colour of the blush in flash photographs.same applies to the bronzer..use a matte one for a natural look.

    6) As a finishing powder you can use MAC’s mineralise skinfinish natural in your matchin shade.transparent finishing powders are best if you can not find a perfect tinted one.

    7) Fix plus is also a good option to minimise the powdery and cakey look.but be careful..because if not properly sprayed it can give your face a splotchy and patchy look.practise beforehand.

Hope these saath points will help you take the saath pheras with zero worry about the makeup.

    1. Hi preeti.. :)) if you want glowy dewey skin then choose a foundation which gives you a dewey finish.. For example: MAC mineralise satinfinish foundation(liquid),MAC mineralise spf 15 foundation(cream) or MAC mineralise skinfinish natural(baked powder). For shimmery eye makeup you can try shimmery paint pots like ‘bare study’,’rubanesque’ and ‘indian wood'(depending on your complexion). For highlighting your cheekbones go for cream colour bases like ‘hush’,’improper copper’, ‘pearl’,and ‘shell’ (depending on complexion) If you want glowy blush then go for cream blushes and if you want a shimmer cheek then go for shimmer blushes from Bourjois or MAC(be careful with shimmer blushes if you have large pores on cheeks). finally you can buy fix plus from MAC to give an over all dewey look and set it in place.

      Hope this helps. :))
