My Experience with KIKO Velvet Passion Matte Lipstick #309 Tulip Red:

Packaging: The Lipstick comes in a rectangular black cardboard box, with the name of the brand, number of the lipstick and the ingredients list mentioned on it. The lipstick bullet is housed in a metallic brushed matte aluminum tube, with the same aluminum tube lid in classy grey color. The name of KIKO products is mentioned on their website but not on the product itself. It has a turn and twist up mechanism. It looks classy and compact. The lid has a magnetic closure, which ensures that the lid is in place and will not be prone to opening on its own.

Shade: Tulip Red is a very classy matte rust orange shade. It looks extremely pretty in the bullet. It has mild reddish undertones but I would still say that it tends to bend over towards rustic orange. It is not very loud and at the same time it is not too dull. It is a shade that will compliment all skin tones. It can be worn in daytime for office and also at the times of dramatic moods. I also like the way the bullet is, all chiseled and classy. The elongated square tip, actually helps in better application.

Texture and Pigmentation: Tulip Red is creamy and soft in texture. It is butter like and glides effortlessly on the lips. There is no tugging or pulling at all. Even though the lipstick is soft and creamy, its bullet is rather hard and strong. This shade will crumble on unexfoliated lips and dry patches. Hence exfoliate and properly moisturize lips before application.

These lipsticks are creamy but when applied, they settle down to matte finish. It has no gloss and shimmers. I generally find matte lipsticks to start feeling dry after sometime but with this shade, I didn’t feel the dryness up until 3-4 hours. The pigmentation for Tulip red is awesome. Even a single swipe imparts full color. Although, I like to apply atleast 2 layers to give an even look. It does not feel heavy on lips, but multiple layering then starts looking uneven and patchy.

Lasting power: This shade lasts for around 4-5 hours. It fades a little with a meal. Also, they don’t seem to be waterproof or cutlery stain proof. It transfers too. Since this shade is matte and bright it takes some time to fade away. When it fades, it leaves an orangey tint to the lips.

I am totally in love with this shade, the color, the classy packaging, and the way it looks on me. They have amazing colors to choose from in these lipsticks.
