Makeup Geek Plush Lip Matte Tomboy Review

Skin tone: Medium to dusky

Hello, all!

Makeup Geek is a brand famous for their iconic eyeshadows but recently they have ventured into lipsticks. They have launched regular lipsticks called as ‘Iconic’ lipsticks in two formulas, matte and shine, and they have also stepped into liquid lipsticks called as ‘Plush’ in matte and cream formulas. I recently picked up 4 liquid lipsticks from their Plush Matte range as they were on sale. Today, I am going to talk about my most favorite lipstick from the lot called ‘Tomboy’. So, without further ado, let’s get started with the details of this product.

My Experience with Makeup Geek Plush Lip Matte Tomboy:

Makeup Geek Plush Lip Matte Tomboy Review All Packaging

Packaging and Value for Money: These lippies come packaged in a pretty plastic tube with a metallic gunmetal cap with the logo of Makeup Geek embossed on the top. There is also an outer cardboard box which has a color combination of metallic gunmetal and the actual shade of the lipstick. The shade name is present at the bottom of the box and the ingredient list is also printed on the outer box. This product has a flat doe foot applicator that’s narrow enough to outline your lips but large enough to fill in the rest quickly and without having to get more product. The packaging is quite small and cute; it is one of the smallest liquid lippies I own and having said that, let’s discuss the quantity of this product. This product contains 0.06 oz of product for $12. Now, if we compare this with similar products in the market, we know that this quantity is so less, for example, Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick contains 0.22oz product for $20. So, we actually get 1/3 amount of product of an actual liquid lipstick which is ridiculous. Overall, the packaging is pretty and of good quality but the product itself is not a value for money.

Shades: There are 20 shades in the Plush Matte liquid lipstick line and most of the colors are unique, not like the regular reds and pinks. I really love the shade selection; it is quite versatile and falls more on the Instagram lipstick trend. The shade Tomboy is described as a muted berry; I will call this as a mild mauvey purple with a pink undertone. This is such a gorgeous shade and worked wonderfully on my tanned skin tone. This is one perfect shade for a mild smokey eye makeup.

Formula: Makeup Geek describes the Plush Lip Mattes formula as a cross between a cream and a mousse. I’d say that’s a pretty good description. It is more like a thickly whipped mousse, similar to one of my favorite formula Tarte Creamy Matte Lip Paints. These lippies have a semi matte finish, not like regular complete powder mattes. They do come off when you eat, so you’ll need to touch up after meals. They’re definitely not kiss-proof. These are not your typical matte liquid lipsticks which make it all the more comfortable to wear.

This is extremely pigmented; one swipe gives a full opaque coverage. For almost all shades, the formula did not emphasize lip lines and didn’t cling to dry patches. This shade does not cling to dry patches and was not at all streaky but went on smoothly on the lips. This formula is smudge- and transfer-resistant but not smudge-proof or transfer-proof.

Staying Power: These have a decent staying power. It stays put for a good 5 to 6 hours and then fades a bit but we can easily reapply it. As I told before, these do transfer a bit while eating or drinking but nothing major. This lippie doesn’t dry down the lips but mostly at the end of the day, it does feel a tad bit drying on the lips but nothing uncomfortable.
