Makeup Geek Prom Night Eyeshadow Review

Hello everyone,

Continuing with the reviews on my Makeup Geek eyeshadow collection, this review will be on the shade “Prom Night.”

Makeup Geek Prom Night Eyeshadow Review

Product Details:
Nothing was ever as fun as prom night. The anticipation, the dress, the shoes, and of course the makeup. With hints of grey, this pale purple shade is flattering for every eye color, every skin tone, and the shimmery finish makes it perfect for any occasion. The rich pigmentation and velvet-like texture makes this an ideal shade regardless of where you are going. Pair it up with other neutral shades for a great day look or add deeper shadows for a great smokey eye for that special night.

My Experience with Makeup Geek Prom Night Eyeshadow:

Packaging:  This eyeshadow comes in a pan which you have to pop in a magnetic palette. I do like the flexibility this provides for customizing a palette based on your needs, but this also means you have to shell out extra to buy the Z palette on top of buying the eyeshadow.

Shade and Finish: “Prom Night” is described as a pale purple with hints of grey and shimmery finish. It is quite cool toned, not the shades I generally would gravitate towards. This color has a very subtle shimmery finish, not metallic by any means, making it quite wearable. I personally am not a fan of this color because with visible purple-toned dark circles around my eyes, I find that this tends to blend into that and accentuate that. The color itself is not a “stand out” for me and I don’t find myself reaching for this all that much.

Texture/Pigmentation/Blendability:
This eyeshadow is smooth to the touch. The pigmentation is okay. I find that I need to apply about two layers for the color to stand out against my skin. It does sheer out considerably while blending and I do need to build it up in layers to achieve an opaque color.

Staying Power: It wears without creasing or fading for 6-7 hours with primer.

Overall, I wasn’t quite as impressed with this shade as I have been with my other Makeup Geek shadows, so I would give this a pass.

In the EOTD, I have used Makeup Geek High Wire over a black base on the inner 1/3rd of the lid and Prom Night on the other 2/3rd of the lid.

Pros of Makeup Geek Prom Night Eyeshadow:

  • Affordable.
  • Easy to customize a palette exactly to your liking with these individual shadows.
  • Smooth, buttery feel.
  • No fall out.
  • Good staying power.

Cons of Makeup Geek Prom Night Eyeshadow:

  • This shade does tend to sheer out while blending and needs a couple of layers to achieve opacity.
  • This shade looks quite flat despite the metallic finish.
  • I didn’t find this to be a flattering shade, especially for my skin tone.
