Deep necks, glittery makeup, messy polish hang nails all contribute to your look on the interview day. Hair are best kept tied into a neat pony tail in case you have a tendency to fiddle with your hair, then straight hair away from the face is another good choice, while bangs might be good for a date, long hair getting into the eyes is a total no-no for interviews, and so are false lashes which might be distracting to some.

Neutral eyes will help the HR focus on your job credentials rather than your makeup talent, let your talent do the talking and not your eyes.

Start with a clean base which is not too cakey but still helps you get an even skin tone, loose powder or cream foundation applied lightly should do the trick, take out time to get on that suits you. Then use a concealer to help conceal dark under eye shadows that might contribute to fatigue. Keep the eyes fresh looking here. For the face, tinted moisturizer is also a very good idea if you don’t have problem skin.

Keep your lips close to a nice nude, may be a nude pink, don’t keep them too dull that might make you look pale and dull, avoid lip liners, keep it natural, use a pinky nude or a soft lip tint or stain, nothing too hot or brown. Desert rose from chambor is good. Aim for a soft mouth, nothing too stark.

If you like blushes then probably a nude blush will do the trick, skip too much of pink at all costs but still to your natural blush color when you pinch your cheek, the blush should add a healthy glow and nothing more, you don’t want pinker cheeks to act as a distraction. If you have a cream base on, opt for a cream blush and likewise with a loose powder or light base, use a powder blush.

Use three complementary colors like a soft brown, chocolate and taupe or hues of blues if you like, add a lighter on the lid, medium on the crease and blend towards outer v with the darker, use the darker to act as a liner if you wish, you can skip the liner too.

Use a soft brown or black smudged liner in thin line,if you wish, skip any liner on the lower lash, keep it neat. For lashed, for sure use a lash curler for a fresh eyes look, it will curl the lashes for a neat look and add a coat of transparent mascara or else a non-dramatic black or brown mascara.

Keep your brows very neat, do not pencil them in too much, but skimpy eyebrows might need some balancing out, so take notice of your brows and even them with a soft pencil.

For nails, skip loud colors and french nails will do for some but might be distracting as well, keep it neutral and make sure you don’t have hang nails or uneven chipped peeled broken nails, use a base coat, nude polish and again a gloss coat, neat hands, well moisturized ones, do make an impression. refrain from too much of jewelry, rings or the like. No bling, piercings or gothic makeup. An uncle once told me a gentleman who came with an ear piercing for an IAS final interviews, was rejected 🙁

Put your best face forward, don’t cake it underneath makeup, that you take pride in who you are, with or without makeup, is the look you should carry.Natural polished look is recommended, keep glitter, smokey eyes and bangs for your girl’s might out.

  1. Great post Neha! You have no idea how irritating it can be for the interviewer when people dont pay attention to these common sense things. Just to add a couple of points here, for people landing up on this page:
    1. Lip Colour – Please avoid all flashy, neon, bright shades. They may be brightening your face but would be too distracting. You want people to hear what you are saying rather thna be fixated on the loud colour. Inversely, pls avoid n*de colours which border on brown – the gothic look is also a no-no. Look for subtle light rosy shades or MLBB colours.
    2. Bling – Pls AVOID!!! Statement necklaces, statement earings, blingy rings or bracelets, bling in hair or coloured extensions in hair – NO!!!!

What you want to put forward in an interview is YOU – not things on you!

  2. Moderation!!!! *headbang* *headbang* *headbang* *headbang*

Pls increase word limit for me!!! I always used extra sheets in school/college too! Nothing’s changed!! rofl rofl
