Today, I want to review a nail product – that is the OPI RapiDry Quick Dry Top Coat. I picked this one on a whim, I wasn’t really looking for anything, just stumbling around duty-free and picked this up thinking I needed a quick-dry top coat, considering I always mess up my nails somehow as soon as I finish doing my nails. Sometimes I sleep, and wake up with bedsheet marks, sometimes I hit my nails against something and I have to redo it or stay a week with a messy manicure. This seemed to be an end to my problems. Let’s see to find if this really did the job.
RapiDry Quick-Dry Top Coat is formulated with OPI’s proven Extended Wear Technology to dry nail lacquer and treatments fast for tough, long-lasting, non-yellowing shine in minutes! Shine, seal, and protect with one coat, pulling it over the tips of the nails to seal in color.
It’s written $12.95 for 15 ml, but I remember having paid less at duty-free, but not the exact amount.
Ethyl Acetate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Cellulose Acetate Butyrate, Butyl Acetate, Propyl Acetate, Heptane, Acrylates Copolymer, Sucrose Benzoate, Triphenyl Phosphate, Benzophenone-1, CI 60725 (Violet 2).
It comes in a small box, with the top coat visible from outside. I like the external box because I like my bottles not gathering dust. Otherwise, it is the usual OPI packaging, the bottle which I very much like. It gives details about the exclusive pro-wide brush in this top coat. It also claims that it is non-yellowing, and ends smears, smudges and streaks.
My Take on OPI RapiDry Top Coat:
This product needs a little bit getting used to, the first one or two times I used this, I ended up streaking my nail paint, but then realized that if I waited one or two minutes and then used the top coat, there is no streaking and messing up. First of all, I love the brush, it is wide, and the bristles seem smooth and it goes on in a single stroke or two at max. Now, be sure to not apply a too-thick layer of top coat, otherwise it won’t dry very quickly. I made this mistake once or twice.
You really have to wait just about 5 minutes and it is dry. Bed sheet marks are completely avoided, but yes, if you nick your nails against something a little while after doing your nails, you are still likely to ruin the polish, but it may not happen too often.
It makes nails very glossy and shiny, and the gloss remains till about 3-4 days at least. The best part for me is the wearability. It doesn’t chip at all. Usually, I change my nail paint in about one and a half week and it easily lasts without chipping. At least, that has been my experience. Better than any other top coat I have used till now.
So, overall, till now it has been a very good product for me and I haven’t faced any complaints, but I would have liked if it dried a bit quicker than this. I also read some stories about it becoming very thick and non-workable when it starts to finish but I have a long way to go before that and I have been using it for almost a year.
(Sorry for the messy nails, my hands were a little shaky).
Pros of OPI RapiDry Top Coat:
- Lives up to its claims of avoiding smudges and streaks.
- Definitely not yellowing.
- Dries quick enough and prevents bed sheet marks.
- The brush is very wide, smooth and great quality.
- Makes nails very glossy and shiny for 3-4 days.
- Wears for a long time, more than 7-8 days for me.
Cons of OPI RapiDry Top Coat:
- I would have liked it if it dried quicker.
- Pricey (but then so is everything OPI).
According to me, it is a 4.2/5 product, because I bought it for quick-drying and it was slightly lacking in that regard, but it is overall really nice.
