The effects of avocado on our hair, skin and overall health is little known in India (Though we are catching up now!). Let me start with the nutritional benefits of avocado.
Avocado is considered the healthiest fruit.
- It is rich in vitamin A, B, D and E – all required for healthy skin and heart.
- It has a high fiber, potassium and oleic acid content – good for preventing cancer.
- The fat is monounsaturated fat – helps lower cholesterol.
- This is just a brief of how good avocado is nutritionally.
Now, coming to what wonders this fruit can do to your skin.
You can make it a part of your diet and even apply it topically.
The pulp of an avocado is the best natural moisturizer.
The high vitamin and potassium content helps it penetrate the skin quickly and evenly, leaving it smooth and well moisturized. You can now make your moisturizer at home. 🙂
For best results, you can mash an avocado and apply it directly on your whole body, leave it on for an hour and wash. Your skin will be as smooth as the best quality silk 🙂 You can also combine it with other natural ingredients such as honey, milk, papaya etc. and make your own packs. Avocado alone will do wonders!!
Another form is the oil. But you need to be cautious while choosing one. It has to be the purest form of Avocado oil, preferably cold pressed. Make sure to read the contents to check for any chemicals.
Apply the oil at night and massage for at least 15 to 20 mins. Leave it on and you will see its amazing effect the next morning! Your skin will surely glow! This fruit can do wonders for dry, rough, flaking skin. Also helps in maintaining the skin tone. I use the “La Tourangelle” Avocado oil. This is suitable for consumption as well. You may also find other brands at a Dorabjee’s outlet.
If Avocado oil is not readily available, FabIndia does have an Avocado Body Butter. This one is also good but not completely natural. It does have a mix of some chemicals, but none the less, it is good enough.
I recommend using avocado in its natural form!! Just mash and apply or eat it!! 🙂
