My Experience with Tom Ford Illuminating Primer :
To start with, I have normal to dry skin and I am a sucker for dewy skin. So something that claimed ‘illuminating’, I knew I had to grab it up. Plus this claimed to be free of silicones, mineral oils, and has natural extracts. Total winner. It reminded me of MAC Strobe Cream in a lot of ways.
It is a pearly finish illuminator that you can use underneath your foundation.
So I have been using it for a almost 2 months now and I have tried using it many ways before I settled down to two of my fav ways of using it.
- Used as an primer all over the face. OMG! fail fail fail. It made me look oil slick. I rarely get to see my face this shiny. 😐 I have tried using it in very less quantity as well, i still do not like the pearly finish kind of look all over my face.
- Mixed teeny bit with my regular foundation (not dewy one) and it adds such a lovely all over glow to the skin. I love doing that for evenings mostly.
- Used as a highlighter after doing my foundation and using it on the high points of my face. I like that effect but it’s not my fav way of highlighting. I feel since I skin is wheatish, the pearly finish kinda looks a bit fake when I use the illuminator on top of the foundation. This method may work for someone with fair skin and cooler undertones.
- Now my most fav way. Use it after using a moisturiser just on the high points of my face and then apply my foundation. It gives such a gorgeous glow-within kind of a look to the skin. I use it on my cheek bones, cupid’s bow, forehead and above the eyebrows. Then I apply my foundation after it. It makes my skin look sooo good. My skin glows at just the right places. You can use it below your tinted moisturiser. Just don’t use too much powder or anything on top of that. It loses the whole purpose of using the product then.
It comes packed in this lovely double weightless plastic bottle. There is a twist up pump. Super convenient and intelligent packaging.
It makes my foundation look better. I wouldn’t call it a primer that that makes your makeup last longer or anything as such because I never use it on my face overall. A little goes a long way. If you use too much of it, you may look shiny. It is creamy and has a lovely velvety feel to it. The glow stays on all day long. It neither accentuates the pores nor minimizes them.
You know it’s like your cheat product for days when you skin may be looking drab and you want that instant lift. There you use this illuminator as your magic wand.
Best, it does not have any specs of shimmer. It has that lovely pearly finish that looks like a part of your skin. Does not feel sticky at all.
I think it is very heavily priced for what it is. MAC Strobe cream is a great substitute of a fraction of price. But if there is a treat you want to give yourself, definitley give this a go. You’d LOVE it. I am totaly addicted to this one. 🙂
