My Experience with Trestique Mini Plumping Lip Balm Lip Treatment Barbados Berry:

A little bit about the brand since it’s new on IMBB. Trestique is a fairly new brand launched in June 2015. Brainchild of Jeniffer Kapahi (worked with Intercos and Revlon in Sales, Marketing and Product development) and Jack Benson. The Brand philosophy centers around a makeup line which is easy to carry during travel and allows one to move from office to party or one location to another with effortlessness and ease of application. The philosophy seems quite similar to that of Wander Beauty, a brand I wrote about some time back while reviewing their duo lipsticks.

A lot of Trestique’s circulation was through subscription boxes. It seems to have come into its own post its tie-up with Sephora. Trestique launched in Sephora from January 2017.

Packaging: The product comes packaged in this really cute, really short and chubby plastic crayon. It really is the cutest thing ever. You twist open the cap to reveal the product. It’s an extremely chubby dome shaped lip balm.

Trestique Mini Plumping Lip Balm Lip Treatment Barbados Berry Review Without Cap

While it is absolutely cute to look at, I have some issues with it. The extremely chubby plastic packaging is not going to sit comfortably in your petite on-the-go makeup bag. It’s way to big for that. However, yes, it would be easy to throw into your tote handbag and will be easy to locate too. Especially, considering our tote handbags are more like wells where things go to drown and get lost – never to be found again!!

The other issue with the lip balm is obviously the application. Yes, it is still cute and looks like another take on EOS. But, this would be a pain to throw on/apply on the go. The chubby dome is not conducive to application with lip lines. In the FOTD, I did apply it directly form the dome, but had to be a bit careful. Let’s say that it is not ideal.

Trestique Mini Plumping Lip Balm Lip Treatment Barbados Berry Review Packaging

Barbados Berry: First things first – it isn’t a berry shade. It is a light to medium pink with almost neutral undertones and a glossy finish. It is actually quite pretty and I am quite surprised to say that considering that it is actually a lip balm.

Texture: It is a thin glossy balm with a buttery, smooth and very lightweight texture that glides smoothly over the lips. Having said that, I did not feel that it had uncomfortable slip – it was easy to glide but easy to control too. The beauty of the texture lies in the fact that even as I went in with multiple swipes (3-4) to build up the colour pigment on the lips, this did not result in additional goopiness (is that a word? Probably not! But you know what I mean). Their was no bunching of pigment or product and it sliding around. This part, I really liked. The brand claims a plumping effect with 32% fuller lips. I honestly cannot measure this percentage. I do feel a slight tingling sensation which is not uncomfortable. And, I do feel that my lips look plump. Having said that, I feel the plumping comes more from hydration and the glossy effect it has on the lips. Overall, it looks good on the lips and your lips look youthfully plump. It is super comfortable and hydrating while on. And, the feeling lasts a couple of hours, post it disappearing too. Considering the buttery texture, it comes as no surprise that this will transfer easily. However, the shade isn’t so dark and obvious that the transfer would make me feel uncomfortable.

Trestique Mini Plumping Lip Balm Lip Treatment Barbados Berry Review Applying on Lips

Pigmentation: If you noticed my description of the shade, I did mention that it is “light to medium”, which is something one doesn’t really say for a lip balm! However, this one has excellent pigmentation for a lip balm. This could be perfect lip for winter for office or for stepping out – if only it was easier to apply.

Lasting Power: If I do not eat or drink – meaning, if there is no surface to transfer – this will stay put. It won’t get absorbed and disappear in a couple of hours like some lip balms do. You will get about 3-4 hours of wear time. However, even when the tint and the balm has disappeared, your lips do not go parched. They continue to feel comfortably hydrated for another couple of hours.

Trestique Mini Plumping Lip Balm Lip Treatment Barbados Berry Review Swatch

Fragrance: There is a slight fruity fragrance which isn’t unpleasant to the nose. Having said that – do note that I could smell it only when I actually sniffed the product. I did not register it during application.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Trestique Mini Plumping Lip Balm Lip Treatment Barbados Berry:

  • Beautiful shades.
  • Surprisingly pigmented for a lip balm.
  • Lightweight texture.
  • Very comfortable to wear.
  • Easy to apply and get clean lines.
  • It applies smoothly and evenly with no tug or pull.
  • Does not flake or bleed.
  • Extremely cute packaging (though I have shared my adverse opinion on this too).
  • Decent wear time.

Cons of Trestique Mini Plumping Lip Balm Lip Treatment Barbados Berry:

  • The packaging – though extremely cute, is not too convenient to carry (unless you carry a tote) or apply.

IMBB Rating: 4/5
Despite the packaging issues, I do like this. I find the packaging aesthetically appealing and it really does work in hydrating the lips. And, the level of pigmentation is an additional bonus.
