caffeine addiction Caffeine Addiction and WomenCaffeine Addiction and Women

Well, as I sip my coffee on my study desk, I just got curious yet again. I have heard so many times, yet and yet again that caffeine has ill effects in health and especially with women. So I googled, and here I am with all my google gyaan which is concatenated to share with you all. (IMBB has become this good good coffee table for all of us na… we can sit and share, laugh and smile kinda place) icon smile Caffeine Addiction and Women

Anyways lets get back to our caffeine, I am sure almost all the ladies on IMBB are caffeine addicts, be it tea or coffee. But I have noticed that most of the guys ain’t caffeine addicts, is it because ladies “THINK”, or we have more brains? icon razz Caffeine Addiction and Women May be.

I know many of us, love the warm in the belly feeling caffeine gives, whilst some of us love the smell; we just need reasons to love our caffeine, don’t we?

But the caffeine has some bad bad effects on the health especially women health, so here I am to share it with you all.

To start off with health dangers of caffeine:
• Women are caffeine sensitive than men
• Women take a lot more time for caffeine detox than men do.
• Caffeine decreases testosterones, whilst it increases estrones.
coffee addiction Caffeine Addiction and Women• It decreases the body’s capability of absorbing minerals like calcium, iron and potassium.
• It increases the rate of premenstrual symptoms.
• The liver metabolizes caffeine, just like the antidepressants and contraceptives. However, caffeine hinders the metabolic rate of the mentioned drugs.
• It induces breast pain and develops fibrocystic breast.
• It affects the heart rhythm, causing irregularities in it, mostly during pregnancy.
• Breast milk is also affected by caffeine.
• It leads to a heart attack risk in women, it also increases cholesterol levels.
• It increases the cortisol level in a feminine body, and hence keeps us awake for nights.
• Caffeine affects the nervous system, since it increases the fabrication of the adrenal gland chemicals creating alertness and quickness. It keeps the body in wakeful mode.
• It absorbs water from the blood.
• It slows down the metabolic activities of the body.
• It soaks vitamin D and calcium from the bones.
• It promotes hair growth “in every part of the body”. (Should I be happy or what?)
• Increases the postprandial blood sugar levels.
• Causes dry skin.
• Fragile nails and dry lips. icon sad Caffeine Addiction and Women
• It has a very bad effect on the GI tract.
• Causes cavity, nausea and malnutrition.
• Causes bladder spasms, nocturia and dehydration.

Caffeine and Pregnancy

Caffeine supposedly reduces fertility. It increases the chances of miscarriage in women. Three cups of coffee during pregnancy is fine, but not more. As per medical sciences, if you really wanna have a baby soon, you should give up on coffee completely.

Studies reveal that a women who consumes around 6 cups of coffee every day tends to have shorter and smaller babies whereas a women who consumes 2 cups of coffee has a below average child.

Pregnant women are also advised to stay away from certain medicines, like pain killers, medicines which are used for curing migraines, colds and sleeping pills, since they contain their shares of caffeine. Caffeine tends to cross the placenta and reach the fetus with pregnancy. Caffeine may also stop blood circulation to the placenta which might harm the baby.

You can have decaffeinated coffee if you really can’t give up on it.

I am sure quite many of the readers must be shocked after knowing the hard facts about caffeine.

I stopped drinking coffee, tea and eating chocolate about 2 months ago and i am happy with it! I don’t mind taking caffeine when I really need it (morning work after sleepless night) but not 10 times a day!

zeeba, i luv coffee but since the past 6 months i have switched to decaffenated coffee. :yahoo: it is a lot more expensive but definitely good on my lips. :yahoo: besides i can put loads of it and still sleep well else sometimes i used to feel hard to go to sleep if had had more than 2 cups of coffee. :( (
and for all of u out there, decaffenedted coffe and the one with caffeine taste almost exactly the same so plz switch to healthier options :) )

Reply

Rati January 16, 2011 at 10:34 pm

yeah they so taste more or less the same but how is it better?

Reply

Natasha January 16, 2011 at 10:39 pm

ratidoo, i first checked the decaff coffee at sugar n spice at dlf promenade. u will get it in brands like twinings, nescafe, davidoff. i actullay wanted to try allt he brands but began with nescafe gourmet coffee. the label itsef will say” decaffeinated”. also, most places i notice will always be running short of these coffees bcoz i guess delhi is turning all health conscious.

i am not sure about other brands but this particular coffee ( it has a gree n wrapper) has better aroma and taste than the regular nescafe coffee. it tastes much better than the one with caffeine. and no it doesnt excite my senses as in suddenly makes me feel awake etc.

Reply

Rati January 16, 2011 at 10:41 pm

Nescafe also has the decaffinated version, I have seen that. i am so going to pick it up on my next visit. I mean I really dont want to give up on coffee. :( ( thank god we are in a ge where we have options.. :waytogo:

Zeeba ji, yes we guys stuff things without caring about fat, but that’s because we stuff lesser things in tummy than you girls do. Ever seen a guy going gaga over chocolates, pizzas, or pastas? Most guys are happy with home-cooked food. :smug:

We guys have our own fat-builder. It’s called ‘beer.’ Fortunately, it is less acceptable in families than chocolates, pizzas or pastas.

Reply

Sanjeev January 16, 2011 at 11:47 pm

Ummm… I think you miss the point. Let me start with an extreme example and then generalize it. Women can have toffees and chocolates right from the day they get their teeth. Men cannot drink beer till they are 18 (legally). This fact alone gives women 16 years lead of hogging. The sharing part comes only later when a man and a woman are together. Before that, a man is not very fond of chocolates, or pizzas or pastas. See your brother or cousin who is not going around with any girl.

and the sharing part just means you girls spoil our eating habits. :smug:

nice article Zeeba..

i tried giving up coffee and have suffered such severe headaches that I know I cannot give it up especially at my workplace when trying to be as productive as i can is first priority.

I am sure most of this group is kind of really young but for a middle aged woman like me who is trying to get preg (1st kid) at 43 this article helps. I have wondered time and again whether coffee does reduce fertility and maybe it really is true.

quick question – is tea better? i have 1 cup of coffee a day but is 1 cup also just as bad when one is trying to conceive? (I know my age is a big factor too)

Reply

zeeba January 17, 2011 at 3:09 pm

oooo.i knw giiving up on coffee or caffeine can be tough.so have to reduce it like little by little….ahh the Tea PART..TEA ALSO CONTAINS CAFFEINE..SO IF AT ALL YOU ARE TRYING TO CONCEIVE..PLEASE GIVE UP ON IT..TILL UR PREGNANCY AT LEAST..i THINK YOUR GYNEO MUST BE ABLE TO HELP u.
