Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara – Blackest Black Review

Hello all,

Revlon is slowly phasing out all of its old mascaras from the US market and replacing them with 5 recently-launched new mascaras. These new mascaras are:

  • Revlon Ultimate All-In-One Mascara.
  • Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara.
  • Revlon Super Length Mascara.
  • Revlon Volume + Length Magnified Mascara.
  • Revlon Dramatic Definition Mascara.

Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara

These mascaras come in different colored packaging and look quite attractive. I picked up two from this range – the “Ultra Volume” and “Volume + Length Magnified” Mascaras. Today, I am reviewing the “Ultra Volume” mascara. Read on to find out more.

My Experience with Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara – Blackest Black:

Packaging: This mascara comes in a sleek flat black matte tube with a hot pink cap. The tube is quite light and handy. The packaging is simple yet looks classy.

Brush: Revlon describes the brush on this mascara as a lash plumping brush. It has both short as well as long bristles which are designed to comb every lash and get rid of any clumps. The brush is slightly on the bigger side but still pretty decent to use. It is slightly difficult to reach the lashes closest to the inner side of the eye but nothing we have not managed before.

Formula/Performance:  I am a bit on the fence about the performance of this mascara. While it does give some volume to my lashes, it is nothing special or something that I would call “Ultra Volume.” It manages to highlight the lashes and make them bold, but that’s about it.

Back details

The good part is that layering the mascara does not lead to clumping, but I did notice that the lashes feel a bit stiff after the application and hence do not look too natural. I personally do not like this kind of effect.

The mascara is not waterproof and hence it does smear if it happens to come in contact with water or tears. I am personally fine as I do not prefer waterproof mascaras which make taking off makeup a chore. The mascara stays put for around 4-5 hours. You do need a makeup remover to get rid off all the traces.

To summarize, this mascara does provide decent volume to the lashes and adds that extra oomph to your makeup. However, it is nothing extra special that you need to run to the shop for.

Here are some before and after pics:

Pros of Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara – Blackest Black:

  • Nicely pigmented.
  • Provides good volume to the lashes.
  • Decent brush which applies well.
  • Good formula with no clumping.

Cons of Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara – Blackest Black:

  • Lashes feel slightly stiff.
  • Not waterproof.
  • Bigger brush makes it difficult to reach inner lashes.
  • Slightly underwhelming for something marketed as “ultra volume.”

Would I Repurchase Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara – Blackest Black?
I would not recommend as it is not a must-have.  I already have one more from this range and will not repurchase the exact one.
