It’s not easy for oily and acne-prone skin types to find anti-ageing solutions easily in the market. Most of the anti-ageing creams/moisturizers are way too heavy and end up greasing and clogging oily skin (which we hate of course). So, there are not many options around for us. Fortunately, I chanced upon Clinique Youth Surge Age Decelerating Moisturizer at the Clinique counter last month. I absolutely love the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel and Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief as moisturizers, but they just hydrate and moisture, and do not promise any extra anti-ageing benefits. I saw that this Youth Decelerating moisturizer claimed to do a lot more than moisturize – it claimed to “virtually reset the clock.” Well, let’s see whether the claims are true or just too far fetched.
Allergy tested. 100% fragrance free. Inspired by sirtuin technology. Clinique science uses youth-extending agents to create a daily moisturizer quite like a fountain of youth. Virtually “resets the clock.” Skin looks younger. Lines and wrinkles appear to evaporate, replaced by plump, vibrant skin alive with natural collagen and elastin. Skin gains strength over environmental agers. Looks younger, longer. Oil free.
Rs. 3950 for 50 ml.
My Take on Clinique Youth Surge Age Decelerating Moisturizer:
This anti-ageing moisturizer/cream specifically mentions that it’s for combination oily to oily skin types, yay! The cream is of medium thick consistency without any particular fragrance and it takes a bit of effort to blend the cream into the skin because at first it goes on the skin like a whitish paste (maybe because of the titanium dioxide content, SPF 15 you see), but then later, the cream disappears into the skin without any greasy layer or heaviness on top.
I haven’t seen this with any other anti-ageing cream/moisturizer, it moisturizes, hydrates, and makes the skin supple instantly without feeling heavy or melting away the rest of the makeup. If I have to wear a foundation, I can wear this underneath without worrying about excessive facial sweating. Usually with anti-ageing moisturizers, most of them tend to dull out oily and dusky skin, but not this one.
It sort of has a mattifying effect I feel. Me and my sister both used this moisturizer and both of us are happy with the results. It provides adequate moisturization during winters for oily skin. It’s a water-based moisturizer, so it won’t clog pores at all.
Glycerin-based products do not suit me well, but this one worked for me, another yay here! I always check out the ingredients list, so I am gonna enlighten you all about that too 🙂 There are many great ingredients that I see along with some incomprehensible ones. Here are the cool ones – olive fruit extract, wheat bran extract, algae extract, hydrolyzed rice extract, birch bark extract, coffea robusta seed extract, tangerine peel extract, etc. Pretty impressive, huh? I think coffee is a great addition, I see them in a lot of anti-ageing creams.
Coming to the effects, claims like “fountain of youth” “resets the clock” is far fetched. This anti-ageing moisturizer/cream does not work overnight, but with regular use, it would make the skin supple and rejuvenated. It does not evaporate or diminish fine lines. The skin does look plump, and without any dry patches. It does not lighten hyperpigmentation patches and would not work like a magic wand on wrinkles and fine lines, but with so many ingredients, it’s a great potion for the skin. I would say that regular use does result in improved skin texture and plump skin. This anti-ageing cream does not even out skin tone. You get nicely hydrated skin that’s soft to touch. One more amazing thing, while cleansing the skin at the end of the day, skin feels smooth to touch.
The biggest fear associated with anti-ageing creams on acne-prone skin are breakouts, but this cream hasn’t broken out my skin. The SPF 15 is quite good too when the sun is not too harsh outside. Overall, I am really happy with this anti-ageing moisturizer/cream and would continue to use it.
