ELF Duo Eye Shadow Cream Review
By Melina F.
Hey Guys,
This is my first review on IMBB. I had ordered a bunch of stuff from ELF in October since my brother is working in the USA, and I received them only in December when he came down for Christmas. This is my first experience with this brand and came to know about it in August while surfing the net. I was a bit skeptical on buying these products since they are so cheap, but after surfing the web, did I realize that products from ELF are either a hit or a miss 😛 and decided to give it a try.
Product Description (from the website):
Express yourself with the easy to blend, crease resistant, creamy duo eye shadow colors (there are 6 shades). Each gorgeous shade can be worn alone or together for a dramatic effect. The soft-blending formula can also be layered under powder eye shadow to set the color in and keep it lasting vibrant all day.
Directions For Use:
Apply shadow to upper eyelid, blending in the lighter shade to illuminate and the darker shade for contouring and lining to achieve desired effect.
Ingredients:
Isopropyl Palmitate, Paraffinium Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Petrolatum, Ceresin Wax, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Mica, Synthetic Beeswax, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, BHT, Iron Oxides (CI 77491 , CI 77492 , CI 77499), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) Yellow No.5 Lake (CI 19140), Red No.40 Lake (CI 16035) Ultramarine Violet (CI 77077), Blue No.1 Lake (CI 42090).

My Experience with ELF Duo Eye Shadow Cream:
Well, this eyeshadow is touted as a “long wearing” and “crease-resistant” formula, which is totally false. It has a really super creamy texture which glides on the lid and just blends in so beautifully, but on the flip side, it tends to travel into creases and lines almost instantly making wrinkles visible. It also dissipates as the day wears on, so its not long lasting at all. As far as other shades are concerned, most colors offered come in shade combinations that do not complement each other, which makes it even harder to work with. In addition, each has a shiny finish that makes wrinkles more visible as mentioned above. Since I have dry skin, I use this as a base and top it up with powder eyeshadow of the same shade . If we use an eyeshadow primer, this creases a little less, but does not stop it.
(Single swipe: it is so pigmented )
(After blending lightly : you can see how it sets in the creases).
Pros of ELF Duo Eye Shadow Cream:
- Creamy texture glides across skin and blends effortlessly.
- Good pigmentation.
- Packaging quality is very good.
- Affordable.
- The color can be worn alone and is a good base for other eyeshadows as well.
- Good quantity for the price.
- Fragrance free.
Cons of ELF Duo Eye Shadow Cream:
- Creases almost instantly.
- Shiny finish accentuates wrinkles.
- Not long-lasting at all.
- Not available easily in India though some shops like Big Bazaar have them and also available online.
IMBB Rating:
1.5/5 (only for its blending nature and standard pigmentation).
Do I Recommend/Will I Repurchase ELF Duo Eye Shadow Cream?
No, never for both. It isn’t good enough and has drawbacks which we would never want in our eyeshadows. I am still in the process of trying other eyeshadow options in the market and this isn’t one of them.
That’s all from my point of view. Take care.
