Ha! So, I am finally sticking to my goal of writing reviews for the products that I hoarded, and today I come with a pressed powder. So, I am not really big on foundations, but one thing I can’t do without is face powder, since I have combination skin, and a very oily T-zone, which starts to perspire in record time! And since I am in college and have to stay out in the sun, and live with just a fan (*sob* *sob*), you can guess that most of the time, my face looks horribly oily and shiny. Add to that my dusky skin tone, and it is almost impossible to find powders that are a good match for my skin tone and also help to mattify my skin. I had been on the lookout for this combination for long, but to no avail. Then, I thought about trying “translucent” powders, which at least made one constraint go away, and my search renewed. And during this search, I found the Essence All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder which claims to “fix” makeup and also mattify the skin. At this price tag, I was like, “sure, why not!” Anyways, I will continue with the review now.
Extremely smooth fixing compact powder for a matte and natural finish all day long. Helps to blend blush and foundation colors together. Fixes make-up when applied as finishing powder. For all skin tones.
$3.99 for 0.28 oz or 8.0 gm.
Talc, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Saphire Powder, Aqua (Water), Magnesium Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol.
It comes in a simple transparent plastic compact shape, with no mirror or powder puff. Frankly, I didn’t mind the lack of both, because (a) the mirror makes it heavy and the puff is never useful to me and (b) the powder is too cheap, I would rather compromise on the extras than the quality of the product itself. It’s easy to identify among the barrage of other products due to its white color.
My Take on Essence All About Matt Fixing Compact Powder:
Finally to the review. First off, I was scared by it looking so white and I thought I would look like a ghost when I applied it. I remembered the days when mum used to smother “Pond’s talcum powder” on our faces and shuddered with horror. Brushing them aside, I used it with my kabuki face brush, swirling it over a bit and applying all over my face with special emphasis on the nose and chin. I saw to my wonder that there was nothing to say I had powder on my face, except of course the lack of shine! I almost jumped with joy, but of course, it’s not so easy to beat the Indian summer, so the shine started creeping in again, so I applied again and the reapplication still did not make me look like ashy, and this time it stayed better.
Basically, I get happy if something can control the shine for like 30 minutes, and this worked for a few hours, so that was great. Keep in mind that I have to cycle and be in the sun, and it helped against that, so it would be great in other environments. I was really impressed since I hadn’t expected much to begin with. As an added bonus, this passed my “photograph test.” Basically, it’s a test to see which powder photographs properly with flash, and well, it passed. I am not sure if this “fixes makeup” since I don’t use foundation that much. Overall, this is a very decent powder, and I might repurchase if I don’t like anything else better.
